Forums - Sales - Wii can be the best seller not only in this gen but ever.

Using previous generations as a startpoint for what will happen in future generation already kills the credibility of your prediction.

The only company that is trying to consistently bring games that were as good as last gen's games to this gen's consoles is Sony.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

My question for the Wii is staying power.

Since it obviously has the inferior hardware...A far larger gap than any others up to this point...Will it have the staying power to be selling well in 2012?

You are indeed correct that the Wii is inferior to the point that the gap between it and the HD consoles may be larger than any other gap in previous generations.

However, the PS2 has older and less advanced hardware than the Wii and far worse than the HD consoles.  And yet since November of 2006 when the Wii and PS3 launched the PS2 has outsold both the PS3 and 360 by several million.

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 18th Nov 2006 to 16th Aug 2008:

Console Wii PS3 X360 PS2
Total
31,118,149
14,803,837
14,986,161
17,709,123

If it can continue such sales 7-8 years after launch I see no reason why the Wii can't maintain decent sales 6 years after launch.  We have to remember that the people who will care about technical specs and which hardware is more powerful are for the most part considered the core gamers who buy consoles earlier in the product cycle.  The people who buy them later on are either (1) replacing defective consoles, or (2) casual gamers who were waiting for a lower price point.  Those casual gamers won't care that the Wii can't output HD resolutions or have high detailed textures.  If they did they would buy the Wii 2 or whatever successors are out on the market by 2012.

Good asnswer azrm2k. Mr Stickball has also failed to study the history between the DS and the PSP. I guess he's just like that in that blissfulll way.

Yes, however, the difference between the Wii and PS2 in that regard is the much greater number of incredible games that the PS2 has had appear on it over its lifetime versus what will ever appear on the Wii. If you're the type of gamer that prefers 1 player cinematic gaming the most then the Playstation brand is your brand because of all of the rpgs and action adventure games that have appeared on the PS2 over the years. Like great novels and films the best of these games retain their appeal over time. As far as this generations rpgs go, so far, most of the best ones have been on the 360. While the best action adventure games Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, ICO Project, Heavy Rain, Siren: Blood Curse, and GTA IV have appeared or are going to appear on PS3.

The Wii has its niche -- Wii Sports, Wii Fit, etc. But after seeing superior looking rpgs and action adventure games on the 360 and PS3 are people going to want to go back and play the same types of games on the Wii when they will not have the graphics, etc, which usually make these games shine and that won't look anywhere near as good as the hd versions? The PS2 had series like the GTAs, FF, God of War, and MGS which were picked up by people over the course of its lifetime very frequently as often in its first years as in its latter years, but the Wii will have far less of these types of games. MGS 4, FFXIII, and GTA already coming to the hd consoles but not scheduled to appear on Wii. And third party Wii games are not in the same league of quality as their HD and PC counterparts.

Wii will outsell PS2, market is growing and Wii popularity is insane. And there are no signs of slowing down.

Wii is getting what it needed, more and more decent party support.

Oh, yeah i forgot about Sony and it's mighty 10 year plan..

The whole way to predict is to use a little thing called historical precedence my friend. Using history to debate the present and future are common place in law, industry and casual conversation. Without history we've got nothing to go on but what we've seen over short periods of time. Your argument lost all credibility when you argued that the only starting point with enough time under it's belt was not a good one.

In terms of games on Wii I somehow feel that it will manage to sell just fine with games that have long legs such as Wii fit and Mairo kart Wii and pent up purchases from supply issues as well as Animal crossing which is a fantastic Bridge game. The casual market tends to buy more stuff during the holidays season and they tend to slow down on the late summer early fall season, this has happened so many times.. it's easy to see why it hit wii harder than PS3 and 360.
News flash: Core gamers buy games steadily all year Casuals tend to go ebb and flow with seasons, they don't care if the games a year old when they buy it either so new releases aren't the only issue to calculate.

In short, I predict a good winter all around with a large boost coming back into wii into January where it will finally start selling more within the yearly norms but I also predict PS3 and 360 to do much the same. Good third party support finally cropping up for the wii will make it an amazing "me too" console for core gamers seeing as PS3 and 360 have a more same-ish experience than when either is compared to Wii. This alone could put it far ahead even disregarding the casual market that embraced the PS2 by and large and seem even warmer on the little white box.

I wrote this nice explanation, I was on the third paragraph and I hit shift ad delete accidentally.

I was using nice wording too, but I'll be blunt I guess.

Your wrong, I'm right and there, that's all - How am I right... (drat to this websites rules)

I wish I could just say "because your wrong."

Wii performs gaming functions with it's tech.

Tech alone is useless, PS3 performs gaming functions and many other functions with it's tech so does Xbox360, Wii also has non-gaming functions but not as many as the HD Twins.

Wii tech has nearly 50% market share, meaning nearly 50% of the gaming community believe it's worth $250, American's seem to believe it's worth more than $250- but that's all jibber, truth is these same guys almost 50% of them seem to think that HD Twins are worth their price tag.

^That's that for hardware.

Software sells hardware so guess what more people think that Wii software is fun compared to PS3 or Xbox360 but I won't mince the two, the HD Twins out pace the Wii combined on software sales.

If the value system for the Wii was going towards high end graphics and longevity in terms of those values then yes that would be the case, but the software can not be viewed similarly to the hardware, no two Wii's are different, but I can assure you Wii sports does not pack the same values as No More Heroes.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

I doubt it.

/sarcasm

I think it will be the best of it's time, and was one of the few that was ready to say it over a year ago. It's just becoming more and more obvious every few months... although I am sure some will be in denial until it happens.

That said, I doubt "ever". World population keeps increasing, and larger and larger % of people are exposed to and use video games (more casuals), and the standard of living of the world increases, meaning games are affordable to more people, future winners are likely to have even higher numbers.

You make me laugh.

PS2 had crap for games the first year.

People don't prefer 1 player cinematic gaming any more, each generation has seen it decline versus multiplayer oriented games.

Comparing 1 player cinematic games to novels and film is laughable, a games replay value is generally higher with multiplayer aspects.

I don't care for RPGs so much myself (neither do many gamers) and I don't see much appealing on the X360 at all.... the sales clearly prove that generally, neither does anyone else (except in America)

Those PS3 games you mentioned are few and far between, and half are not even released (well Siren is in Japan I think, but not anywhere else) Uncharted does look incredble, but to me it seems like a Tomb Raider clone and I found those games rather dull, MGS - Ok good pick, well done... GTAIV is more of the same again, and many owners of it seem to have tired of it after the hype died down, most complaining about the stupidly high scores it garnered.

The Wii is not niche... that's the point, it has a more varied library of games than PS3 or 360.... games are what sell a system, not 1 game, not 2 games, but the library of them, and if that library is diverse then the system appeals to more people.

The rest of your post was repeating the same points again, so I have already replied.
