Forums - Sales - PS3 $100 price drop Sunday

I don't know if this pricepoint will really make that big a difference, otherwise the 20gb model would have sold better if $100 was such a big issue.

About the 20 gig model...

I wonder if the problem there was its timing, not its premise. The people who buy a console in the first 6 months are the hardest of the hardcore, especially when you're dealing with $500 or more--these aren't the people who want a stripped down version of the machine. So naturally it was kind of a flop.

If that's the case, it means the 20 gig's sales performance at $500 won't predict the 60 gig's performance at that price at all. The audience they'll reach now is the slightly less hardcore group--the ones who still want the most out of their machine, but who aren't willing to put up with the launch price and the weak launch lineup.

It also means that Sony might do well to reintroduce the 20 gig at a later date, when the price is lower and the software is more compelling. Maybe even right now.

Hmm, i thought that this would be comming. First i don't know why people saying Sony still loosing that much money at 600$. I would have imagine, they are about to break even, but hell at the moment only sony knows.

 These seems reasonable to me.

Actually to respond to this, Nintendo hired Oprah! Everybody gets a free car!

$100? I'm still going to buy PS3 before 15th If everything is fine I will get my unit today...

waiting the responce of GBallZack that was so sure there was no price cut happening and flamed everyone that even thought there was even a chance.

crappy old school NES games are more entertaining than next-gen games.

First off: Sony IS STILL making losses for every PS3... It's about to break even... But it hasn't already!

Making a 100$ pricecut isn't going to make a big difference in terms of sales. See the 20G moddel!...

And for you guys who don't believe me: Look at the numbers for the weeks after the drop when they come out!... Or look at PSP price-cut!...

AND: When they drop 100... They will again make huge losses on PS3... And combine that with slacking softwaresales for 3th party's and low sales of the system. I don't think it is wise in the long run!

Also: Microsoft and Nintendo can easily respond with like a 50-100$ price-cut with making minimal to no losses. Which would make it even harder for PS3 to compete!

And: What when PS3 still keeps about the same sellingrate as is has the last couple of months?!... Hehe... Sony fans! Be worried! (Im hoping Nintendo drops Wii to 200$... That would be a nice slam in the face of Sony!)

THE NETHERLANDS

Yes, 100$ is good but it is hard to know if it will be significative ...
For the large public it is still an expensive.
At least, now, the PS3 will better compete with the classic BR player.

I presumre we should wait E3 to have a confirmation ...

And what about a pack : 1 game + PS3 = 499$ ?

And what about PAL countries or japan ?

Time to Work !

It has been denied again :P What's new...

And still expensive? Wait untill you get your next energy bill after purchasing the PS3 plus a HD full Plasma TV....
