Forums - Sales - PS3 $100 price drop Sunday

sloisel said:

Yeah, you know, on November 17th in the USA, the PS3 launched at 500$. And now there's a price cut, drumroll...

New price: 500$.

They should have price cuts like these EVERY DAY!

Great another guy who says stuff that doesn't make much sense and signs his posts.

Stop building up expectations for a skyrocketing of sales so that I don't have to listen to people crapping on the PS3 again if it doesn't.

The sales of this will come in the holidays mostly, in July and August it will be an increase but not big (it might reach 360 levels though if it goes well).

Why must you destroy my dreams? I want...I NEED some excitement again, the summer is soooooo boring.

Jesus what are you doing? go play games. Don't have any systems? so many games to play right now.

Such a significant price-cut so early in a console's life is never, ever a good sign.

Gamecube and Xbox and PS1 all had price cuts sooner.

Not that I don't agree that the price cut doesn't determine the overall outcome, but putting the XBox and Gamecube in there?

Personally, I think it's great, and maybe Sony was shooting high with the price knowing that the production costs would drop this summer.  Perhaps they didn't expect to have to price it lower this soon, but I'm sure they aren't hurting anymore than before...

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Yes, but not $100. The keyword there was "significant".

Am I only supposed to compare to the best selling console of its respective generation?

People are saying the PS3 is gonna flop so bad it won't be around in 2009, I'm trying to make them understand even if PS3 ends up third that they are hoping for way too much if they think PS3 is gone in 2009.

Xbox had a 100 dollar price cut so did the PS1. GC had a 50 dollar cut. Also 100 dollars on a 300 dollar system is a lot more significant than on a 600 dollar system.

Gamedaily is reliable.  I put this in the news section.  Do we think Microsoft will react?  Will Nintendo?

Nintendo - Has no reason to react since the PS3 is still in a different price range than their system and the Wii is still selling out so they have no reason to cut the Wii's price.

Microsoft - I would have said yes if asked this same question yesterday but since they made their announcement of a 3 year warranty and the fact that it'll cost them between $1 billion - $1.15 billion I'm not so sure they will have a price cut this year.

Nintendo may not respond to the Sony drop, but they will have to respond when MS responds as that will put the 360 in the Wii price range`

Are you seriously telling me it shocking to you that on VGChartz there are those of us who just absolutely love to follow the industries numbers month after month? Dude this is the FIRST place you should look to find those type of people. I dont know why you acting like I'm the one out of place here.

Not really, the 360 core is not selling much and should not count as the main rival of the Wii, the premium is the main competitor of the Wii.

Also, cutting the price on something that is selling out everywhere is just not gonna happen.

I misread the pricecut records on the Xbox, but as for the rest of those allegations...

...there's also the fact that the $100 cut on Xbox and PS1 was less significant in relation to production costs of the machines. Sony was already losing significant cash on the PS3 per each system sold, and now they're losing $100 more.

It wasn't so extreme for PS1/Xbox.
