Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 price cut week of Sept. 7; 60GB $299, Elite $399, Arcade $199

If people were smart the new price cut would have no affect, Microsoft is going to release their holiday bundle in November.

And i'm surprised Microsoft is willing to bleed their gaming division this year.  All their hard work making a profit in their game divison last year will now be wasted.

Omg MS is giving a last fight, what MS can do now is just cut and cut and cut 360 price

Very interesting

Yes, Cutting the price of a 3 year old console is a sign of desperation. Lets see, lauched at $299 and $399 and after 3 years it is going down to $199 and $299.  That actually seems very well in line with all previous consoles or even held out much longer than expected.

Yeah and I think they are making money even with the price cuts, these are in line with what should be done.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

so now that ms have used what could possibly be their last price cut, what happens if sony drops price during the holiday? if this price drop doesn't boost enough, then the 360 is in real trouble. it's going to be the cheapest console in 2 major markets. sales SHOULD be higher at these prices.

That might be something M$ wants.  Sony to bleed itself dry in an attempt to stave off their rush.

i think it's pretty naive to think that sony will follow suit so easily. ms let an advantage slip, now they have to be selling the 360 below the wii in order to compete with a console twice it's price. unless sales from the cheaper 360 are phenomenal. sony aren't batting an eyelid. the 360 is already at a very good price point. if people aren't buying it now then i doubt the price drop will have much effect.

They are up year over year.  If they aren't buying it now, then they never were.  In which case Sony must have been doing really bad to still be behind them.

they're up YOY but still selling worse out of the 3. they are resorting to selling at $199 to compete. in my opinion ms are now in hope territory. if i weren't on my ps3 browser i would type a little more. but my fingers are aching! so im done lol

If it doesn't cut into PS3 sales, at least it should cut (more) into PS2 sales!

Torturing the numbers.  Hear them scream.

Now that it's cheaper then the Wii it will outsell it. Isn't that the old arguement?

SONY's responce so far is to introduce a $500 version which is going backwards if you ask me. The high rollers have already spent the big bucks especially on the MGS4 bundle though I guess there will be a few more that will trickle in at the $500 price. I just don't think they can make much ground at those starting prices even if they keep adding gigs of space. With the economy at least here in the USA not being the greatest though thank god gas prices are coming down I just don't see the average parents or family paying that much money for a gaming device especially since unlike the Wii only the younger croud will play it. When money is an issue things like extra space and blue-ray are a luxury and not worth the extra dollar for many people.

If you just want to play games period the 360 is the cheapest way to go.

That is part of the arguement, but not the whole picture. A 360 no matter the price will not be bought by parents with young kids.  But certain gamers will take the price of the system into effect.

Here in Europe the price cut has a strong effect in sales, but europeans are much more soniers than americans. The Playstation brand is too strong in countries like mine, Spain that PS3 sells better than Wii. There is no reason why the price cut no affect the sales.

Anyway I think all these movements of MS, that will happen in only a few months (price cut,  Avatars, games that may appeal some casuals, long waited hardcore releases) are directed to block the attention in LBP, and maybe create a short trend until holydays, when the price drop really make effect.

The Japanese strategy is collapse the market with JRPG, and in Europe a "I-don't-know-name" big boss of MS say that he will make an announcement in september, only for Europe and it will be huge.
MS fear LBP much more than MGS cause it is the first PS3 game that could appeal to causal and hardcore at the same.

I'm spanish, my english isn't very well, and it's my first post in vgchartz, please be kind ._.

Ah! I'm not a PS3 fan, I only have an Xbox360 and I love it. I Hate Sony for kill dreamcast with smoke bombs.

Should be interesting to see what this does for sales, and for 360 fans, I'd wait for NPD this time, we don't want another July on our hands.
