Forums - Sales - American Sales up!

About Madden Wii...

I know a bunch of people have been complaining about it's debut... But Wii madden 09's first week sales are bigger then Madden Wii 08 after 5 weeks... And that game got to 700k. So, Wii madden = 1.00 million+~!!! PS3 and X360 ofcourse, strong! But hey, HD-version!

There were 4.4 millions Wii in the US one year ago, there are 13.6 now...

Of course the sales are going to be bigger if they weren't Nintendo might as well close shop...

All that people are saying is that Madden Wii sales don't make the case for giving up HD consoles development.......

Historically Madden sells the most on the platform with the biggest installed base, that's not the case right now...

More concerning are Xbox360 Madden sales.

Same sales as last year but that's on a 12.2 million consoles installed base compared to 6.8 million last year, I can't say that's amazing ( although last year 360 Madden sales were really great ( 11% of 360 owners bought it on first week) and it was foolish to expect the same attach rate this year).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Most people write off PS3 / 360 so easily since they are Wii fanboys here. The Wii is in a category of its own with no direct competitior. It is easy to see why it posts up the numbers it does. If ONLY the 360 or ONLY the PS3 existed, the Wii would be on an even keel.

Console Agnostic since 2001.

one thing i hav in my mind is, i giv ps3 the period till it releases killzone 2 at 2009, by then the holiday season has past and ps3 will hav pretty strong lineup such as resistance 2 LBP bioshock tekken 6 killzone 2 motorstrom pacific rift afrika etc..
after all these can Sony take another step forward and maintain 70-80k sales per week in NA?

Ooh, I forgot:

LBP will be huge.

LBP will not be huge.

If it follows the same line as other niche games (okami comes right to mind), extreme gamers that are found in forums will buy it and word of mouth it to other extreme gamers, but the general buying public wont know it exists.

Do you really think LBP is going to get the same or less amount of marketing as Okami? Sony is going to push this product hard.

Indeed the buying public will know it exists. The only question is... will they care.

Hope so. Games like this are great... and usually people never buy them becuase they're afraid of doing it themselves or something.

You can have the best game in the world and shout in peoples ears that it's the best game and the world... and it's still no gurantee it will get bought.

I mean hell, there are people who still think Barak Obama is a muslim despite the fact that the biggest story of his campaign was that his christian minister said a bunch of unpatriotic stuff.

LBP will get a lot of advertising... but less then Obama.

I think we can compare LBP to MGS4 soon saleswise. In genre they differ, but both where extremely hyped by the fans on the forums and in the media. And despite major advertising I don't think the general public will try something new like LBP.

My guess is a lot of frontloading, two weeks of awesome sales, the PS3 perhaps edging out the wii that week even but after that things will return to normal and sales will be roughly around MGS4's. Still a succes, but diversifying the demographic it will not.

A solid soft line up helps naturally, and the PS3 library continues to add more worthwhile titles (sum total of the parts rather than individual big hits), but in order for Sony to significantly and permanently step up further towards mass market adoption in NA, they MUST lower the entry price to $299 or less.

It seems highly unlikely we'll be seeing this in 2008, seeing as how Sony is finally starting to eke out profits from their gaming division following quarter after quarter of consistent big losses.

Unless they start making PS3s out of styrofoam and cardboard, I just don't see them being able to reduce production costs quite that fast until the smaller chipsets are ready for production some time in 2009.

But the PS3 will not see that permanent jump in sales regardless of how favorable the general public sees the game library until the price becomes more accessible.

I don't think price is really that big of deal.
Right now the PS3 sells despite being the most expensive of the 3 consoles because there is a perception the value it brings is worth the price ( namely Blue Ray).
Sony just needs to keep adding more value to keep sales going.

Sony has never been a Compary to heavily drop prices to get increased sales. Their electronics sells well despite being more expensive than the one from the competition because it is perceived to be superior to it....

The price of the PS3 is by the way not that far from the price of PS2 at the same time in its life.

299$ of 2002 is 351$ of 2007 with inflation factored in....

can anyone explain to me why ps3 beat 360 this week?

According to the NPD it beat the 360 in July. Why is this week a surprise to you?

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

yea i think for the upcoming holiday season price drop + big games coming out can totally kill 360. but too bad a price drop can b hardly afforded by sony. they cant even pay the money to protect the exclusivity of FF13 :P
