@OP: This is one of the freakiest games (storywise) you can find. If SK would make a sequel, it would be a day 1 purchase.
As for the gameplay, it has fixed camera angle (works in a similar fashion with Resident Evil), controls work a lot better and it has a lock-on to target, where you can aim different bodyparts of the enemy.
Since it's essentially an N64 game, it looks like one, but don't let it fool you, what misses in technical terms, there's atmosphere to replace it. ED isn't action based as RE, but it's more like psychological horror.
Definately worth of buying, i hesitated myself at first, but after getting the game myself, i have to say i'm really glad i did. There are lots of worse games in the genre, such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill series.
