Some people are upset because Robert Downey Jr. is wearing make up to look black in this movie.

The history of "black face" in the U.S. is a touchy subject.

Here's my problem though.

I'm Jewish, I've faced anti-semitism.  I also think some humor looking at Jews from people of other races can be funny.

I think people looking to confront stereotypes with humor is a wonderful thing.

The whole point of RDjr's role is that black people are screwed out of roles and it is explicitly stated in the movie.

I think people confuse racial discussion with racism and hatred.

What do you think?

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

people were upset about that????? guess they didnt actually see the movie.

I think problem is some groups of people do look everywhere for conspiracies and attacks from majority which is a bit silly.

I'm Polish living in the UK for few years now, and i find it funny that few of my Polish mates in Uk are simply seeing every little event as a sign of xenophobia from the locals. Other ethnic groups sometimes also seem to be oversensitive about themselves which sometimes turns into not needed agression.

But majority is more relaxed, i think stereotypes (and every nation and ethnic group do have them) used with good taste are hilarious, and some people just have problems with their sense of humor.

I haven't seen the movie so i cant comment on that.

I haven't seen it, but I'm with Lolcislaw, it sounds all too familiair with a minority group calling the racism card. I've seen it happen a lot... Jews overreacting because a biology teacher taught kids what Mengele's findings where. It didn't matter how he presented those findings (negative of course) but the slightest positive mention (we now at least know that injecting ink into somoene's eye does not change eye colour) set's of massive protests.

Black people, as mentioned in the article do it... hell, even us gamers can do it at times when we are being mocked... we all are minority groups.

I don't see the race thing being as big of a deal as the "retard" thing. If you saw the movie, you would know what I'm talking about.
Half the time when people pull the race card its when they haven't seen the movie. Always taken out of context. I hate it.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

If people call "racism" on that they've got their priorities wrong...

It's all satire anyway.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Wait... Who is complaining about Downey's character? as far as I can tell it's a complete non-issue.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

even if he was just playing a black person i wouldnt have an issue.... black people have played the roles of white people before and i didnt hear anyone yelling racist then....

I agree with the retard stuff.  It was in bad taste, but I still don't think it is worth discussing and I would still recommend the movie.

My feelings about that word, is it used to be the name.  It's like midget.  People without disabilities convince others to care, so then they deem one word appropriate and another inappropriate.  But then that word becomes the bad word, so they tell the disabled group to call themselves something else.

I've never met (in person) a disabled person who didn't label themselves with the colloquial label.  It's always PC non-profit who is run by a salaried founder who works off of donations by guilting those of the majority while doing little to help the group in question.

On topic:

The retard thing was pretty bad. But it wasn't as offensive as it could have been. I didn't find it that offensive though. I went into the movie expecting it to be funny and lighthearted and that's what it was.

Off topic:

I particularly enjoyed Downey Jr.'s line "I'm a lead farmer mother fucker!" That was hilarious.
