Forums - Sales - A crumbling tower: Sony lays siege to the 360's weak spots

I think you might be overestimating the sales power of GoW3 and KZ2.

I think Killzone2 will sell really well (if they do not botch it) Its a FPS with a huge budget. That's the game equivalent of a superhero movie. God of War3 may not sell that much but its the successor of the best console games ever so perhaps personal preference is coming into that

Personally, I think Resistance 2 looks way more interesting than Killzone 2, and given the track record of previous Killzone-games I don't think people should get their hopes up too high. From GoW3 I expect sales similar to that of GoW1 and 2, which by no means is bad, but I wouldn't say that the 360 can't counter it.

Killzone: Liberation was awesome BUTTHEAD! And GOW3 gave me a wet dream last night.

Feel free to add me as your friend-PSN ID: Bobo012893

It's a bit melodramatic. And is really insignificant. If Sony doesn't turn the PS3 and Bluray into profit than none of this will matter. Market share of the HD consoles is decided. It's a moot argument.

Neither the PS3 or Xbox360 will suddenly explode in sales and pass the other one by any significant amount unless something drastic happens like a PS3 for $200 or 360 for $200 with bluray - neither is realistic any time soon, so it will be too late.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Me too, but I think Killzone2 will sell more, even though I played Killzone1 (Urgs) Never underestimate the hype machine. And yes God of War 3 may not be a huge seller but having the best game for a given niche is worth something extra I think. But who knows what MS has up its sleeves.

LOL we are at 20/15m Nothing is "decided". The PS2 for example really took of when its price got lower so to say everything is decided is at best wrong.

Home could be the silver bullet? I suppose so, as I've heard about both Home and silver bullets for years, but never actually seen either used.

This is yet one more in the latest onslaught of PS3 faithful trying to convince the world that they are going to win - really, really win - this generation. There are still delusional and mathematically challenged people who think the PS3 can catch the 360 by the end of the year.

Honestly, the only way Microsoft can counter Sony's momentum would be to send themselves back into the red. Microsoft doesn't have the large games division that Sony and Nintendo have so they rely much more heavily on third party exclusives to sell their system. Unfortunately, the more the PS3 and Wii sell, the less attractive releasing a game exclusively on the 360 will appear for 3rd party publishers, especially since (like the article states) the 360 is floundering just about everywhere outside America.

What Microsoft needs to do to stay ahead of the PS3 (nevermind the Wii) is to tap into their vast pool of funds and cut prices of the 360 SKUs and secure 3rd party exclusives and timed exclusives. However, doing any of this would cause a significant amount of debt for Microsoft and I don't know if they would feel that it's worth tens of millions of dollars just to come out slightly ahead of the PS3.

MS suddenly is small fry?

I thought people complaining MS having too much money and buying exclusives from Sony...

it fails to see that 360 has a much broader library, and more quality exclusives

I had this discussion once and while it is still true that the 360 has a bigger library than the PS3 the advantage is melting fast(in relative terms) and most of the titles are first-year games of questionable quality. (And some pearls like Halo3, Mass Effects and Bioshock of course ).
And for exclusives 2008 the PS3 is at least even and Microsoft will need some HUGE news for 2009 to counter even one of the holy trinity God of War3, Killzone2 and Gran Turismo 5 (unless GT will come 2010 but then I will scream)

But that's not the point even with the bigger library the PS3 does outsell the 360 and to be honest for good reason. 90% of all games are multiplatform anyway that look meanwhile at least as good on PS3 as on 360. And build quality, media functionality, online features that are now pretty much the same as on 360 but free and some nice features like the exchangeable HD make the decision easy. I think the only reason for buying a 360 are if you have lots of friends on XBox live or if you absolutely must play Halo3 or Gears.

That more or less sums up my own opinion.

Added to that would be the lack of a decent gaming PC, seeing as how just about all of the biggest titles for the 360 are also being published on Games for Windows, other than Japanese developed games like JRPGs.

If you have a gaming PC, then it's only to play 360 owners on XBL who don't own gaming PCs (since XBL for Windows is available, free of charge) and Halo 3, the only true major exclusive on the platform.

If I hadn't already owned a 360 before I built up a gaming PC, I could have saved myself the trouble as well as about $550 in Xbox hardware.
