Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo WiFi Connection should be getting better

@Soriku

We talk about 2 different features here:

1. Wi-Fi = WC 24 = internet connection. You need it for everything that requires internet connection.
2. Standby Connection = you're Wii is working in standby mode and sends / receives stuff while your Wii is TURNED OFF.

Standby On = yellow light while Wii is off
Standby Off = red light while Wii is on

To play games online, access the Nintendo Channel, send/receive messages you need ONLY Wi-Fi enabled.

Standby On is required only to:
1. receive messages while you're Wii is off
2. access the weather and news channels

Standby On = your Wii runs 24/7, it uses power (less than normal running of course) and keeps your Wii hot and sometimes the cooling fan starts running for a short while.

My only problem is that you need the Standby On to access the News and Weather Channels which well, I don't even use, but I find it stupid. It's not like I'm whinning and I want to sell my Wii and get a PS3 or 360 for this reason, I was just saying ...

@Faith Raven: WTF just turn it off. If you mean you don't want to use WiiConnect24, you can just turn it off. Or if you want to use it daytime, but not at night, turn the console off by pressing the consoles power button for 4 secs. Then the WiiConnect will be at "24" once you start it again. Don't people know how to operate stuff anymore?

@Bacon: I'm not in for the same code, i find the way MKWii uses the codes better, since you can send MKWii request via message board to your Wii Friends. With game specific codes you're able to have more gaming friends.

@excellent: I seem to have hard time comprehending your topics, but the Nintendo Channel just got released (and it has demos for DS). The Fuji Photo Channel propably gets worldwide release and it's yet to see what else we get.
As for the friendcodes and online play, i believe we will see similar system to MKWii to come standard.

How do i do this? I need a tutorial.

Now there are over 100 million nintendo systems in people's houses which can go online. Why isn't Nintendo trying to improve their internet service. WiiWare isn't going to cut it, something for the ds got to be made giving some benefits similar to the psp. I really dont care of add-ons. It could actually fit in the gba slot or something so wats taking so long.

2 bad only 30 m are made

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

@Blackbird: Go to Mario Kart Channel, wait until the bottom bar (the one with the changing text) shows "Invite friends via message board", select it, it goes to message board and click a name.

I just had a funny picture in my head reading your post about MKWii's online system becoming the standard.

I pictured I was in a sense the road runner and I was just running on the road, suddenly a tunnel is coming up and boom, I'm out cold and my beak is covered in paint.

do any of you remember playing madden 08 wii online? Do you remember the lag and you will always have to predict your oppent's moves

MKWii becoming standard would be the next step, the online is improving just not in relation to friend codes. The company knows that the system isnt ideal tho. we couldbe getting stuff like the conduit channel

@dib8rman: Was it a negative picture?

@excellent: Haven't played Madden 08, but i believe its online was at EA:s server.

@woopah: As Iwata said, that they work to improve it, but i hope we get "universal" friendcode system that could be linked to all the games. Why a Conduit channel? And what should be done with it?

That's the only way? Why don't they just plug it inside the friends menu and make you pick "Add friend code" or "Invite Friend"
