great watch, but in the reality of things (in a style following the video)
LISTEN TO THIS

THE WII ISN"T KID-FRIENDLY BECAUSE IT HAS CHILD-SAFE CONTENT, IT IS KIDDIE BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO FIND ENOUGH ROOM FOR A 5 HOUR GAME WITHOUT REVISITING, NARRATING, OR RE-HIGHSCORING. CHRIST, I GET THE SAME KIND OF WALKTHROUGHS FROM MY GRANDMOTHER WHEN I'M DOING THE DISHES.
:P it's true.
the other systems are made for people who like to play games, and the wii is made for people who might like games but essentially it is just to have fun and waste some time for 15 minutes while waiting to go to the club/movies/bingo room.

Bingo

@megaman

He said that 3rd parties who appear on Wii platform that can't figure out what Nintendo is doing to sell the way they sell will be in the same pot as those who stick with the HD Twins and the values they currently represent. Capcom had mascots in Megaman, now megaman is tolerated and the brand kept alive through spin offs. EA had NBA Jam which featured not only serious game mechanics but fictional spins, similar to the all-play strategy.

@BMaker

Lol, here's the short and strait to the point answer, I rarely give people these but you get one:

Yes everything you just described is a toy and yes you are playing 'with' them.

Lol, that was too much man, but yes they are toys, very expensive toys but I hope that puts things in perspective for you on where you put your money.. as far as values and ambitions go.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

@bdbdbd

I'm not sure how the user created content works in LBP but if sack boys are subject to change through this then I'm not sure how well it being a mascot will work out.

lol disney might have the greatest strategy of business known to man. They appeal to kids. I sure as hell know that in the future i will be owning more non-disney stuff than disney stuff. WHAT IS THE POINT?!?

I guess a gun is a "toy" too, when people enjoy taking them to a firing range or gun club........

Ok, then if everything that is enjoyable is a "toy" and "toys" are for kids, I guess luxury sports cars, computers, new TVs, I dunno...dead weights for lifting, etc, are all for kids.....I think not.

Thats was a damn good explanation.

@everyone nintendo fan or neutral fan.
Dont bother arguing with all the m$ and sony fanboys on this they'll never except it.
and it wont lead to anything good.

Fanboys being------->If you love Final Fantasy and bought a PS3 or love Halo.

Comparison to the comic book industry is great.

And I'm glad to find someone else who doesn't consider violent games "mature", just a 15 year old's fantasy.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

Doesn't matter what you own from Disney what matters is they've been around for near 70 years.

Can someone make a link to Game Overthinker 4 cause some of these responses can be answered by that very easily... I would but I'm on my PS3 and I can't copy paste URLS.

I completely agree with the video, I never compared it to the comic industry, but wow that does seem a little same-ish to me. I always thought videogames were toys, high tech expensive toys that forced me to eat instant noodles for a few weeks after purchasing them but toys none the less ^^b

Stop watching after he called the multimedia hubs (PS360) "toys"

I didn't know that a movie player was a "toy"
I didn't know that a storage unit for pictures and videos was a "toy"
I didn't know that a continuing thrust towards an online community was a "toy"

You can have fun, enjoy, and be entertained by things without out them being "toys"

I enjoy paintballing. Is my paintball gun a "toy"? I like building things. Are my tools "toys"? I like playing online with friends. In what aspect does that make my system a "toy".

I understood what he was trying to say, but he was being too oversimplistic by generalizing anything that is enjoyable as a "toy". But then again, I guess simplicity is what Nintendo is going after nowadays. He swears that M$ and Sony's game divisions are going to die off because they focus on HD....well guess what. IT'S BECOMING THE STANDARD!!!! Why would M$ and Sony want to effectively work BACKWARDS? Everyone is slowly but surely buying HDTV's, 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound systems, HD receivers, etc.....

It's actually SMARTER to work on COMPLIMENTING what people are already doing. It's like economics. Say peanut butter sales were starting to go up. That would consequentally make jelly sales go up too. (PB is HD, and Sony/M$ are the jelly)

The Nintendo approach to this would be that if peanut butter sales were going up, they would push something completely opposite, like I dunno....vinegar.

Sorry if that seems like a generalization or is too simplistic, but hey, that's what Nintendo is doing, right?

Edit: I don't know about anyone else, but I enjoy the fact that Sony has grown with me. I can't say M$ because they're new......but for Sony, the PS brand has grown up with me. THe started with the likes of Spyro and Crash Bandicoot when I was a kid. Getting older, they got things like DMC and the Jak series. Now this generation I'm seeing the likes of Uncharted and MGS4. He mentions "diehards", but the fact is, M$ and Sony are actually keeping their audiences, whereas Nintendo continually brings in new ones by sticking with Mario, and thus abandons the older ones because they get tired of rehashes every generation.

My two cents.....

I don't get what you're implying here... that Nintendo made the wrong decision this gen, and MS / Sony were smarter?  Take a good look at the profits (or losses, for that matter) and rethink that argument.

@Wii haters: Don't bother with the console complaints, it has been said a million times already, and isn't relevant to the video.

On topic: There were some conclusions made by the guy that I could argue against, but he's mostly pretty reasonable.  More importantly, the guy is not only interesting, but hilarious, so I'll be checkin more of his vids out (thanks for the link).
