Forums - Microsoft - What can Microsoft do to increase X-Box 360 sales at this point?(Fall 2008)

well according to MS themselves winning most awards from G4 will help

i think that they need to find a way to bring in new people (not neccesarily casual) cos i think the amazing line-up mostly sell to people already with the system. banjo could be good as fans og the IP might buy 360 for the game. the good line-up should help them make thatg decision

Better advertisement would be a start. And I mean real ads, for the console itself. That's the one thing Nintendo do better than everyone ALL the time. The Wii itself is the marketable item, rather than any individual game. The 360 needs to be marketed in the same style.

Put together ad campaigns highlighting the size and DIVERSITY of the games library. Some way of showing "you like FPS, try one of these 4 games, you like RPGS, try one of these Western ones, or some of these Japanese ones. Whatever sport you like, it's here" type stuff.

Highlight XBLA in ads. Showing the best of the restored/remade classics from yesteryear, Doom, Worms, Castlevania, Sensi etc, and also the newer arcade specific games like N+, Geo Wars, Braid and so on.

A more standardised pricing plan would be good as well. The price cuts so far have been lopsided and not particularly impressive most of the time.

In terms of global interest, more regionalised products would help, but that might take into the next gen before it becomes a standard thing.

Will you teach me to football?

the only thing they have to do is reales GOW 2 Street Fighter 4 and MK VS DC and ya i think they should be good

It's going to outsell the PS3 from Sept-Dec so I wouldn't worry about it too much. You can't stop a $199 price point and considering the 360 did nearly 800k more last year over the PS3 during Nov+Dec this year is going to look like a cake walk if the PS3 remains at $399, which all signs point to yes.

I thought the PS3 did better over last holiday.  Or at least I read one poster say that.

According to official NPD record the 360 did ~800k more than the PS3 during Nov+Dec holiday 07.

MS got its ass whopped last Nov/Dev, maybe you misread the info as it was probably PS3 beating 360 800k. I remember 1 week PS3 beat it by about 110k. Good times.

MS is pretty much out of options, time to focus on making some profit, which they failed to do last quarter.

An ad campaign featuring Billy Dee Williams.

awesome!

Billy Dee with a girl lying on a pool table playing 360 and drinking malt liquor.

Awesome how no one mentioned that the 360 has outsold PS3 for the last three weeks.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Considering we are talking in light of US sales and NPD here:

NPD Record Dec 2007

Xbox 360: 1.26 million
PlayStation 3: 797,600

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6184847.html

NPD Record Nov 2007

Xbox 360: 770,000

PlayStation 3: 466,000

http://www.thesimexchange.com/blogpost.php?post_id=455

Xbox 360 2,030,000

PS3 1,262,000

=~800K+ 360

Good times indeed.

PS3 doesn't even have a chance this fall if it remains at the same price point while MS does serious undercutting. Last year will look like a joke. Considering MS now has a full year of fiscal profit behind them unlike Sony I see no reason to keep the pressure on. In the last 12 months in the US the 360 has only gained share not lost and yes you do have to factor the key holday season.
