WHAT??? Don't let the facts get in the way of fanboyism.

April never happened because fanboyism dictates it. There are only eleven months in the year 2008.

Conclusions:

1. So far in 2008, there have been NO SYSTEMATIC DIFFERENCES between VGC and NPD estimates for the Wii and PS3. Single-month differences between the VGC and NPD estimates for these consoles have tended to cancel out--almost perfectly--over time, as indicated by the essentially identical VGC and NPD entries in the Total column.

2. So far in 2008, there HAVE BEEN systematic differences between VGC and NPD estimates for the 360. Specifically, as indicated in the Total column, the monthly VGC estimates for the 360 have been higher than the corresponding NPD estimates by about 25%.

ioi is a 360 fanboy confirmed.

Or NPD are PS3 fanboys confirmed.

It is shocking that the 360 has been over every single month. Wii/PS3 are usually pretty close (except for April for the PS3,  and the PS3 is usually off by more than the Wii.).

Good post though, I'm sure lots of people will appreciate it.

As in go buy us some coffee.

Not really. I mean Ioi said some time last year he had a source that seemed to show that NPD was undertracking 360s vs 360 shipments.

Though chances are the numbers might still be high. It's likely NPD is still low on 360s... like i believe they were when the shipment numbers came out. (though if i remember correctly VGchartz was a bit high as well.)

In June 2008, I noticed that VG Chartz estimations had the Wii overtracked by 54,000 units when compared to NPD data.

Also that the X-Box 360 was overtracked by 42,000 units and the PS3 was undertracked by 74,000 units.

Moving forward to July it looked as though X-box 360 was set to make a very big comeback. It was no surprise to many people who visit this site or follow gaming in general. A clearance sale on the 20 gig X-Box pro had surely helped the 360 to surge past the PS3 in sales.

However, NPD results for July indicate that VG chartz estimations for that month: had the X-Box 360 overtracked by 138,767 units and the PS3 undertracked by 25,679 units.

No disrespect to the staff at VG charts; we all understand that they can only make educated predictions about sales, but why is it that these predictions seem to favor the 360 over PS3, for the past few months, consistantly?

If the NPD indications are correct one can conclude that for all of 2008 Playstation 3 has outsold X-Box 360 in North America in addition to worldwide.

It is possible that VG Chartz numbers could be more accurate then NPD's, but in my opinion that's not very likely.

@ Billy D

Take a look at the post at the top of this page. The last two VGC monthly estimates have been the exception, not the rule.

There have been some small adjustements made the prior months when NPD data came if there was a sensible difference.I think we will see an adjustement.

As bluesinG has pointed out with hard numbers, and as I said much earlier in the thread, the ONLY thing that MIGHT get adjusted is the 360 numbers down. Everything else is spot on. It's getting boring reading these "VGC should change their numbers cause NPD said so-and-so" when the numbers align so well.

The only thing VGC has to work on is it's software tracking, and that is coming along more and more as the months go by.

@Oyv:
PS3 was avalible for only 6 months in 2007 year in Mexico so I think you are still incorrect. For what I know Ps3 was losing there with 360 by around 15k per month in second half of 2007 and I agree that it's sensible to assume that PS3 may be still losing by that kind of number in 2008.

But I disagree with extending this advantage to all Latin America market.

I would keep Canada out of this estimation as we have much better idea on wha's going on there. For 2008 PS3 is winning there with 170,500 units sold vs 129,000 sold for X360 through June (PS3 advantage is 6.9k per month). Link

So for me X360 may be gaining around 8k per month in Americas outside of USA not 40k as you are claiming.

@Billy D: VGC tends to adjust by shipment figures. Maybe not the perfect system, but atleast it works.

Hard to say why the numbers favor 360, maybe a calibration needed, but comparision to shipment figures could give us a better view how off VGC is.

And welcome to VGC. There's nothing new when a new user comes to the forum and opionates the numbers, but i haven't seen such a good critisizing post so far, as yours is.
