K comon guys ioi is doing the best he can. He has to get the sales of EVERY STORE IN THE WORLD. This is a nearly impossible task! Give him credit for trying.
well yes i know about the VGC using all of america's, but the 10% or whatever is always thrown around, so if that number is the same then yes it still boils down to two things as I posted above.
1. vgchartz had been overtracking ps3 and undertracked it this week to make up difference.
2. npd had been undertracking ps3 so it overtracked it this week to make up difference.
Your saying that it is not right to do that because it would scew things in this month perfect example. Where a close race and 360 has PS3 outbeat this month according to VGC, yet NPD say opposite.
But then we reaach a dellima. Say we can figure out vgchartz exact U.S. numbers and they exact with NPD. Who is to say who was right this month. We can't know, they both have thier sources and educated guesses on the rest.
Based on the "OFFICIAL" reports by Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo recently and how VGC's data made more sense and was practically spot on. Then it would appear that NPD had been wrong for a while by undertracking a bit each month. And decided to make up for that this month. And that is what I will believe or trust as being the result, because NPD/VGChartz/NexgenWars or whoever else is out there is never official they are all people taking what info they are given and guestimating on the rest. The only thing Official is what the 3 companies send out at end of quarters and stuff, and since VG was closest to that, they appear the most legit in my eyes at moment.
irstupid, ioi will change the numbers next week, there is no point in all this speculation. He actually knows what needs to be changed and what doesn't.
As in go buy us some coffee.

@Oyvoyvoyv:
Brought to you by the same person who posted this. I'm getting tired of all this whining about adjustments. I'm going to start calling out the hypocrites.

Lately, who thinks NPD.....
Has been way off in the last couple of months? I mean how could the ps3 and 360 not reach 380,000 sold during April, during GTA IV month. What do you guys think?
P.S: Yes i know before i was banned i was a major dick and said VGCHARTZ was crap etc. but i have changed now.. Good to be back.
Smile
Edit: I would also like to apoligise to Ioi for being a complete ass. SorryCry

VGC should be NPD + 10%, but the Xbox is 100% higher on VGC, and the PS3 is about 20% lower |
You are ignoring NPD's margin of error as well.
When comparing two tracking sites together instead of a tracking site and the true number you need to remember they both have margins of error and can be off in different directions.
For example. Say i have 100 apples
Tracker A and his 10% error of margin says I have 110 apples
Tracker B and his 10% error of margin says I have 90 Apples.
Tracker A and Tracker B are now apart by more then 10%.
Famitsu and Mediacrate often differ by waaay more then 10%.

| kamil said: @Oyvoyvoyv: It (X360) sold roughly 75K/month for the first 24 months in Latin America. If we assume that is sells roughly the same now, we're actually spot on. Ps3 on the other hand, sold roughly 30K/month for the first 12 months. If you have a link it would be nice if you would post it Latin America thread. But I don't think it's true: * 360 sold 550k in first 22 month in Mexico (through Dec 07) - 25k/month * Mexico represents more than 50% of Latin America video game market * 360 is very succesful in Mexico, at the end of 2007 it had 66% of this gen market share (in terms of userbase) So there is little possibility that X360 would sell 75k per month in LA if in the biggest LA market (with more 50% marketshare) in which it is really succesful it was able to sell only 25k per month. All data I used can be found in LA thread (thanks to BKK). |
Hmm, I didn't do it correctly really when I did it originally. I didn't mean LA, but outside of US. Those two are very different.
Anyway, here's what I did.
First 24 months ~ 1250K sales for Mexico + Canada.
Estimate for rest of LA is 550K.
That total 1800K
Divided by 24
Gives 75K
For Ps3 (which I dunno why you didn't react to), I was also incorrect.
First 12 months ~ 370K for Mexico + Canada
Estimate for rest of LA - 60K
Totals 430K
Divided by 12
Gives 35K
So just a confusion. Would be hard to get different otherwise, as we're using the same source.

Wrong. Well, half-wrong. Here are the monthly VGC and NPD estimates for 2008, so far:
| Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Tot | |
| VGC Wii | 294 | 505 | 594 | 685 | 645 | 720 | 520 | 3963 |
| NPD Wii | 274 | 432 | 721 | 714 | 675 | 666 | 555 | 4037 |
| Difference | 20 | 73 | -127 | -29 | -30 | 54 | -35 | -74 |
| Percent | 7% | 17% | -18% | -4% | -4% | 8% | -6% | -2% |
| VGC PS3 | 182 | 305 | 318 | 330 | 178 | 332 | 180 | 1825 |
| NPD PS3 | 269 | 281 | 257 | 187 | 209 | 405 | 225 | 1833 |
| Difference | -87 | 24 | 61 | 143 | -31 | -73 | -45 | -8 |
| Percent | -32% | 9% | 24% | 76% | -15% | -18% | -20% | 0% |
| VGC 360 | 258 | 320 | 319 | 279 | 192 | 262 | 310 | 1940 |
| NPD 360 | 230 | 255 | 262 | 188 | 187 | 220 | 205 | 1547 |
| Difference | 28 | 65 | 57 | 91 | 5 | 42 | 105 | 393 |
| Percent | 12% | 25% | 22% | 48% | 3% | 19% | 51% | 25% |
All table entries are in thousands of units. NPD entries are the NPD monthly estimates for the USA only. VGC entries are the VGC North America estimates, scaled by 90% to estimate the USA only. VGC entries are taken from the "official NPD threads," and so do NOT include any adjustments made by ioi AFTER release of the corresponding NPD estimates. A positive entry in the Difference row or Percent row indicates that a VGC estimate was higher than the corresponding NPD estimate, while a negative entry in one of these rows indicates that the NPD estimate was higher.
Conclusions:
1. So far in 2008, there have been NO SYSTEMATIC DIFFERENCES between VGC and NPD estimates for the Wii and PS3. Single-month differences between the VGC and NPD estimates for these consoles have tended to cancel out--almost perfectly--over time, as indicated by the essentially identical VGC and NPD entries in the Total column.
2. So far in 2008, there HAVE BEEN systematic differences between VGC and NPD estimates for the 360. Specifically, as indicated in the Total column, the monthly VGC estimates for the 360 have been higher than the corresponding NPD estimates by about 25%.
