By the end of the generation, I would say that there is 90% that the list goes:

Xbox 360 > Wii > PS3

because Wii will get more support from the Japanese publishers and most of PS3's RPG are on Xbox 260 already.

Oh and the story in FFX was really bad. It started great but the fact that you can know what is the end boss 10 hours into the story made the story a bit more too predictable for my taste. Also, the character that turns evil was way to easy to guess.

SO? That makes no practical sense. So what if you know who the main villain is at the start of the game. Does that change the amount of momentum you must gain before defeating him? NO! The mystery of the game does not rely on who is the villain, but why he is the villain, why does he do what he do?

Your reasons for not liking the game are a tad obtuse for my tastes.

And as for the 360>Wii>PS3 thing,

What are you smoking? The Wii having more RPGs then the PS3? I can understand 360 being ahead but the Wii? As "innovative" as the wii is(/sarcasm) it is not suited for RPGs. At least not RPGs that appeal to the mass market. This is the draw back of making a system that is TOO different from it's competition. You cannot share .

RPGs go to 360/PS3 not Wii(and this thread is not discussing handhelds)

The only RPGs that appeal to the mass market are Final Fantasy and Pokemon.

Just about every other RPG tends to be a below specced affiar.

RPGs also tend to be single platform due to the niche base and the cost of porting usually being too high to recoup the costs.

I mean, name a bunch of multiplatform RPGs that occured before this era.

Wii has already won in Japan, and JRPGs are obviously geared toward the Japanese market, so JRPGs are very well suited to the Wii. Wii may very well get its second Tales game before PS3 gets its first.

Jack Tretton just said something about Sony not having any JRPGs in the works (I assume this means first party), so it's not at all unreasonable to think the Wii may have many more RPGs than the PS3. Or more than the 360, for that matter.

Quality PS3 (FF13, versus, white knight chronicles, last remnant)
quantity (not so bad in quality yet xbox360 (ff13, infinity undiscovery, trusty bell, SO4 [timed for sure],last remnant)

-twesterm edit-

I don't know what you did but it screwed something up.  Just make your post again.

I assume that by the end the Wii will pass by both due to overwhelming Japanese support, and then it's just seeing how the 360/PS3 fight plays out.

Do you actually have any proof whatsoever in what you are saying?

For mass appeal, Wii is already far ahead of Ps3, with a DQ.

The Wii's selection of RPGs....

http://wii.ign.com/index/games.html?constraint.game_genre_name.game_genre_1.game_genre_2=RPG%3A&constraint.return_all=is_true

http://wii.ign.com/index/games.html?constraint.game_genre_name.game_genre_1.game_genre_2=Action%3ARPG&constraint.return_all=is_true

The PS3's selection of RPGs...

http://ps3.ign.com/index/games.html?constraint.game_genre_name.game_genre_1.game_genre_2=RPG%3A&constraint.return_all=is_true

http://ps3.ign.com/index/games.html?constraint.game_genre_name.game_genre_1.game_genre_2=Action%3ARPG&constraint.return_all=is_true

and many of the Wii's RPGs are shared with the 360 and PS3.

And the onld DQ game to come on the Wii so far is the Swords one and it sold...

So yea, the Wii is not suitable....

360 and Wii have both proved that RPGs are not where there fans lie, as no JRPG has sold over a million on either console. The PS3 has yet to get a JRPG but when it does we shall see how this all turns out...

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

Since the PS3 may be the worst system to buy for an RPG lover, I'd have to say that the Xbox 360 is better for RPG lovers.

I think the 360 has the best line up currently and I think this will continue till the end of the generation. Btw, The Agency is not a RPG, is a MMO shooter and Age of Conan hasn't been announced for PS3.

The Agency is an MMORPG. It is one of those genre confusing games. If you look at the videos of what you do in the game, u can obviously tell it is an RPG. More too a Alpha Protocal/Mass Effect liking.

and you are right about AoC, my bad. Actually it needs to be taken off both of them. Odds are the 360 one being canceled to to lackluster of appeal on PC. I hear the game bombed BAD. Also all MMOs for 360 tend to be cancelled (True Fantasy ONline?)

Age of Conan did not bomb. It sold 1 million soon after it was released, and Funcom couldn't even keep up with the demand and had shortages everywhere. AoC did far better than Funcom expected.

The problem was Age of Conan couldn't keep the players hooked in the game, but I bet there's still a few hundreds of thousands still playing, and many waiting to see if the game will be updated and become what it should've been in the first place.

Why did you put MMO's on that list? Things like FFXI and Age of Conan are completely different beasts.

I pretty much put in anything with an RPG tag line in it. Action RPGs, Strategy RPGs, Stealth RPGs, JRPGs, MMORPGs, etc.

They all hold the name so they deserve to be listed.

Although I was a bit split on putting in games that already existed in last gen that are just ports (FFXI, Phantasy Star Universe). It seems a bit unfair to have those kind of games in there.

I think it's alright to make it fairly broad and say things like Oblivion and FFXIII can be on the same list but MMO's just appeal to a completely different crowd.  If I was looking to buy a console based on its RPG's I wouldn't give two craps about DC Universe Online.

As for counting things like Phantasy Star and FFXI (assuming we want to count that :P) I think it's alright since it appears on that system.  They're older games but the 360 is the older system.

MMORPGs are rightfully from the RPG genre. It's interesting how you approve Oblivion is an RPG, after that game being coined as a single-player MMORPG by some, due to several designs that are similar to MMORPGs.
