First-person cover system (never before done in a FPS) - There's a reason it has never been done before, a cover system that goes into first person would mean that every hit you take is either a direct headshot or the hands. It's also a little un-necessary because it has the same effect in MP as tilt in CoD4 has OR going from lying down to crouching behind an object (except now you've got the system forcing you to push a button to un-attach yourself from the object).

This I will disagree with, the basic idea of a the pop-up cover system is basically the same idea as most gamers who have always used cover in games like Counter Strike, Half-Life, Halo, Battlefield, Unreal Tournament, etc. Basically it added to the basic idea of crouch next to object, pop-up, shoot, crouch again. Its the same thing but added the ability to aim at targets a certain way over the barrier without really having to stick your neck out completely.

I for one find it a better system then the crap Gears, R6V, and several others uses.

I haven't read (or seen) much on the first person cover system and while I don't think I love it I do think it's interesting.  I like the cover system in things like Gears of War because I can look around still but if I'm stuck in cover in first person I don't know what's on the other side of that barrier unless I poke my head out (or wouldn't it be cool if they gave you a mirror?).

It's neat because it will put you into the game a little more but I'm just still not convinced the mechanics are going to beat that of the third person cover system I love so much.

That's the problem when trying to compete with something that's already been done really well.  Props for trying something new, but unless they blow it out of the water it's just going to be seen as Gears of War did it better (and I'm just using Gears as an example because I like the game, pick whatever third person cover system you like).

there has been many videos with the cover system, its actually pretty cool. Seems more indepth since you can move around and see everything like you said.

I'll have to watch that tonight, we have slower than dial up here.

Let it be generic, I don't care. Everything else has been done in the genre that it's VERY hard to be unique, hell COD4 was very generic, but that didn't make it any less awesome. From the videos that I've seen, it's basically COD4 in a sci-fi realm with prettier graphics, doesn't mean thats a bad thing. Hell, I wish it does everything right like COD4 did, cuz then it'd be awesome.

I agree with Snake on this one. Most everything in FPS's has been done before. Some of the most looked forward to FPS's on all three consoles have largely generic ideas behind them. If you make a great game, it won't matter how generic it is, or how many times the ideas have been done before, it's still a great game.

...

What every one has to remember when you compare a game to CoD4 is that CoD4 never sacrificed gameplay for story or vice versa. The experience was so tense and complete, that you completely forget abot the game not being 'revolutionary' in gameplay.
So if you look at CoD4 gameplay videos, chances are they wont be that impressive gameplay wise, but you know this is a great game.
The same 'filter' should be applied to any game that tries to be this kind of game. If the immersion is so complete and tense that you don't notice that the gameplay is 'dated', the game is a succes.
For this reason, any game that tries to work with this formular shouldn't be judged until it is realesed.

And yes, the dialog is horrible...

Ok if the gameplay seen in that video is not generic and boring I don't know what is.

You absolutely positively cannot be excited about that unless you have some major goggles on. It's slow, very VERY boring to watch (it won't be much more fun to play), and that so called 'cover system' is nothing more than a more automated crouching infront of a wall. It's not even giving you that much bloody cover!

Killzone 2 is VERY generic and it WILL be boring, and the more we get shown of this game, the more overwhelmingly obvious that becomes. I've been saying this since the start, and recently more people are following suit and realising that.

It will not shake the FPS world... it won't even make a dent in it. You can put money on that.

as much as i agree about how good killzone 2 could be, i don't like you ripping on call of duty 4. Yeah it didn't really bring anything new to the table. But it did the same things better. Amazing graphics, great gameplay. Its an amazing game.

Don't need more console FPSes, thanks.

And uh it's not out, so maybe after people play it someone will be able to say for sure.

Yea really, why isn't Haze cited instead? It even has a Willhelm scream...
