Yea really, why isn't Haze cited instead? It even has a Willhelm scream... |

I think the point is this - a lot of people think good game = innovative. So the game that people say is innovative is probably just the game they like the best. But moving on - Killzone 2 has shown us an innovative cover system, an incremental innovation really. However this is something that is likely to be implemented by other games looking to improve their own cover systems. Its not huge but its one example of innovation in this game.
Tease.

The best post in the thread...yet no one took notice :( |
That's exactly what I"m getting at, most games are generic, that doesn't mean they can't be fun or good games in general. Disgaea 3 is going to be largely generic SRPG fare and not hugely different from the first two, but I"m still looking forward to it and can't wait to play it.

Don't feed the trolls, you were responding to a trollish comment with more trolling, and a horrible observation at that. Resistance and Gears feel different, play different, and have totally different features. OT: Killzone 2 has a lot to overcome. It's gorgeous, it's animation is unparalleled, and it had tremendous potential, but I'm still cautious that they've done it right. I look forward to trying this puppy out. |
I know it's not a clone. ;)
But a few 360 owners have said so. :P

Its more like a Half Life/WWII shooter clone mix, but Insomniac are awesome anyway.

Sounds like you are describing Gears of War and Gears of War 2. Why doesn't that franchise get labeled as generic. It does nothing special.

Oh, I'd label those as generic too; believe me. They're just not in the scope of this discussion.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

Yea, big muscled guys in suits of armor? Totally generic!
| twesterm said: I read the rant and I still think Killzone 2 is going to be generic in terms of gameplay. I do admit the art style is pretty good (amazing compared to other games in the genre) and the animations are great but that doesn't make a good game. When the vast majority of the hype of a game is about its graphics this is just the view I'm going to keep until proven wrong. Yes, I've seen positive impressions of the gameplay but I'm still just skeptical. |
I just think KZ2 will do many things we've seen before very well or better than we've seen them done up until this point. If the game just represents an impressive move forward in graphics, enemy hit animations, AI, destructability, and use of cover, with tight gameplay and fun multiplayer, will make the game HUGE, and it'll make the game more than CoD4 could ever claim to be.
