Forums - Sales - Famitsu: Wii has the highest attach ratio of any console since 96' in Japan

so we still don't know what they mean with attach rate, right? i wonder what it could be then... i thought that they may want to say that the wii has sold the most software in his first 30 weeks of its lifetime, but they wouldn't be talking about an attach rate then i guess...

anyways, whatever they mean, the reason why it is like that is probably because there are two cheap, but beloved games on the market. to be honest, besides wii sports and wii play, software sales for the wii haven't been great so far, at least in japan.

Perhaps by "attach rate" they're looking at accessories as well. The Wii does great with accessories.

If you mean that there are many accessories available, true. But I sincerely doubt that these peripherals sell well.

I dunno, my friends have got a lot of controller skins hehe.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Controllers are accessories and I bet more people have 4 Wiimotes than 4 Sixaxis or 360 controllers by far. PS3 and 360 only really focus on online multiplayer so you don't need 4 controllers, most of them have 2 if not 1 I bet.

Using the weekly historical data here on VG chartz, at 30 weeks into the PS1 lifespan (June 25, 1995), it had the following numbers:
cumulative hardware: 962,377
cumulative software: 3,896,557
This results in a cumulative attach rate of 4.05

The weekly Wii data for June 24, 2007 shows:
cumulative hardware: 2,838,463
cumulative software: 6,644,098
This results in a cumulative attach rate of 2.34

Obviously the PS1 is higher as others in this thread have guessed. I'm too busy to do it right now, but now I'm curious to see how all the other consoles have done at the 30 week mark. Hopefully I can do that tonight.

And though this should be obvious to anyone paying attention to the thread, I'll state it anyway. This is Japanese data, not worldwide or US or anything else.

i just did that, so i now think the sources theory must be right, because; attach rate for consoles at 30 weeks, launched after 96. Dreamcast- 2.714 360- 2.606 GC- 2.460 Wii- 2.34 N64- 2.012 DS- 1.873 Xbox- 1.854 Ps2- 1.646 Ps3- 1.374 Psp- 1.350 GBA- 1.316 so it, cant [or shouldnt] be that either. wow the ps1 attach rate is huge for 30 weeks, the only one over 3 and it's even over 4

And these are now the japanese numbers, which was the case?

Got it.
just looking at the numbers i wrote down to work out ''software to console'' attach rate. and the wii has the highest volume of software total at 6.6M. followed by ps2 at 5.2M.
oh wait, that would then discount the since 1996 thing because no console ever has sold so much software total.
damnit what the hell are they on about.

it's pretty obvious that they mean "highest attach rate after 30 weeks on the market" if you read the article correctly. and thanks TWRoO it appears VGchartz backs up their figures.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

yer they didnt actually say highest attach rate per wii customer. Just highest software attach rate. Kind of a sony style PR spin on it all lol.

I believe that they have been tracking software widely since 1996. Meaning that they don't have comparable records before 1996.
