Wtf? I thought i didn't post anything? Actually i didn't but, not posting the post. Guess i accidentally hit "post".

Carry on, nothing to see here.

Launch sales will obviously be in this order:

360>PS3>PS2>Wii>PSP>DS

The final result will end up being:

360>Wii>PS3>PS2>PSP>DS

I think the relative ease of Wii's Madden 09 will help the flustered newcomers to the HD versions. I just played Madden 09 on the 360 today, and trust, it was actually pretty difficult. Control is much tighter than the previous Maddens and will take some getting used to. I think with the Wii version though, you can just pick it up and get things fairly quickly, which casual players may be looking for.

Correct me if I'm wrong later.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

well, according to ioi, Ps2 sales dropped 30% and wii sales increased 30%. Realizing that the PS2s version of Madden 08 had more sales than the wii version, there was a higher drop on the ps2 than the Wii gained. So obviously, it is possible to conclude that PS2 owners are going next gen, resulting in a 30% increase in sales for wii, 10% increase in sales for PS3, 30% drop for PS2, and 0% increase for 360.

First week...

360>PS3>Wii(due to 30% increase)>PS2>PSP>DS

Total

360>Wii(remember, long legs. Acceleration is better than speed)>PS3>PS2>PSP>DS

Overall, the PS2 version will drop the most from the previous version.

ioi said that about day 1 sales, I assume?

If that holds for rest of the week, that means launch week sales will be ~250,000 for PS3 and ~100,000 for wii.  The wii numbers are lower than I would expect, considering the improvements made to All-Play.... nevertheless as I and most have said the wii doesn't need a big front end like the other consoles do, its legs will come through to carry sales.

edit: wait a tick... when you refer to the percentages from ioi are you talking about console sales or Madden sales?  If the PS2 lost 30% of its Madden sales it would still be above the PS3 and Wii in launch week sales at ~300,000+

I'd have to say 360>PS3>>Wii. The type of people who will drop full price for a slightly updated football game every year aren't the type of people who buy the Wii. I also think the PS3 version may do better than the last installment against the 360 (but not surpass it) because (this is hearsay) the 360 version of Madden 08 was superior to the PS3 version (60 vs 30FPS), but both versions of Madden 09 are equivalent.
If the Madden players were so willing to rag on the PS3 version because the FPS issue, what do you think they'll have to say about it being a quarter of the resolution on the Wii? Besides, I don't think it's a game that's particularly well suited to the motion controls (speculation since I've never played any Madden game, and have no interest in playing them either)

As such, here are my final predictions for total sales by August '09:

Wii Madden 09 All-Play - 1.6 million

PS3 Madden 09 -  1.4 million

I don't see anyway Wii Madden could possibly sell 1.6million.

Actually, if it's attach rate is anywhere close to last years it will sell way more than that.

Still, 1.6 is my high-end guess. I don't think it will be any lower than 1.2 million when all is said and done tho.

@Polezo: No i'm not. I have faith in All Play, Call Your Shots and Peter Moore.

Can't see it.  Madden fans are a seperate breed from regular gamers (although there's a lot of cross-over)  most established Madden fans want the game they grew up with in HD.   All Play may well bring in all new football fans to the game but not enough to out-muscle the core Madden crowd on 360.  At least, not yet.

i was an advid fan of the madden series until all they really did to improve the game was up the graphics and change the rosters, and guess what the ps3 and 360 version have in common with that? they upped the graphics and changed the rosters. now since ive been seeing stuff about the wii version im wanting to buy it cause of the more fun features it has. heck who wouldnt find dancing after a touchdown to make the guy that got the TD dance? that is awesome i think. the 5 on 5 thing is cool but the call your shot is awesome. my best friend who has (check this) 2 ps2's in his house went out and now they have a wii with mario galaxy and madden 09. this is the trend now but i see a spike in wii sales with madden  09 just for the changes they did.

...The launch week sales  were ~244,000 for the PS3 version of Madden 08, and were ~74,000 for Wii version.  These total's represent 13% of the August 2007 total user base for PS3, and 1.7% of the 08/07 user base for the wii.  It should be noted however, that the launch week sales for the PS3 version represent 29.5 percent of total sales LTD, and only represent 9.5% of the Wii's total sales.  In other words, the launch for the wii is not as crucial because of the system's typically longer legs.

Furthermore, as I said in the introduction, I believe that the overall girth of new Wii owners (9.1 million more American Wii owners v. only 3.7 million more ps3 owners) will push the wii further, despite the PS3's higher attach rate.  Frankly, I believe that the 13% launch week attach rate of last year's iteration will drop significantly for the PS3, while the Wii's attach rate of 1.7% will drop less so...

As such, here are my final predictions for total sales by August '09:

Wii Madden 09 All-Play - 1.6 million

PS3 Madden 09 -  1.4 million

^Quote truncated and rehighlighted but numbers weren't edited

First week numbers are almost exactly in line with my predictions... The PS3's launch week attach rate dropped significantly from 13% to 7.5%, while the wii's launch week attach rate dropped a more marginal .5%, from 1.7% to 1.2% (it simply didn't have as far to fall though so that prediction was easy).

Furthermore--and here's the scary part--if the legs of each title are the same or similar to last year's, and first week sales represent 9.5% of total sales for Wii and 29.5% of total sales for PS3, then after one year All-Play will be at ~1.67 million and the PS3 version will be at ~1.44 million.

I'm going to be following the weekly year over year sales of this game closely...

I think we can all agree the Wii version will have better legs and as a result, it'll be close between the two.

Btw polezo, the Wii actually has a higher attach ratio than the PS3 (even if you ignore Wii Sports)
