While there is fundamentally nothing wrong with the "All Play" expansion of Sports Games, EA incompetent marketing of the idea has without a doubt, crippled any potential for success. The covers thus far in the "All Play" series have featured first a doofy mascot while other platform's versions featured hardcore battle action football players and now for Madden a goofy laughing Football Player pointing playfully instead of getting ready to throw a ball like on the covers of the other platforms versions. In addition the "All Play" is boldly displayed in happy yellow in much the same way you'd expect a special olympics version of a sports game to be displayed. Why not call it the "All Play Special Edition" so that it sounds like something that is better instead of mitigated for wider appeal?
At Best Buy, the Ps3 version of MAdden 09 was nearly sold out, the DS version of Madden 09 was nearly sold out, the 360 version (what little they had) was nearly sold out, but the Wii "All Play" Version was in healthy abundance.
Way to go EA, you really understand the Wii demographic, or rather, why assume the Wii has to forever possess a completely alien demographic to the rest of the industry instead of trying to woo core and hardcore gamers over to the console, nah, what am I saying, that sounds almost like market strategy. Maybe All Play will work out in the end, but get rid of the dip-shit silly-ass cover art for the "All Play" series at the very least.
