Forums - Microsoft - Eternal sonata 360 - is it worth getting

If you can wait and don't mind paying extra, wait for the PS3 version. If you don't feel like waiting and want to save some money, pick up the 360 version. Gorgeous game, beautiful music. Fun battles if you have friends that want to partake.

I don't recommend it. It's got nice visuals, but the story put me to sleep. Save your money for ToV and IU. Those should be pretty good RPGs.

Pah...Eternal Sonata has got a unique charm, that it carries throughout the whole of its story, graphics and style.

Most RPGs these days don't have this (they all used to).

...Each to their own, but I'm sure everyone can agree its WAY WAY WAY better than Blue Dragon (that was proper shite)

Nope, I liked Blue Dragon more than I did Eternal Sonata. It took a while to get going but it was a longer much more rewarding experience and the shadow system was far deeper than the combat in Eternal Sonata. Even if you rush through it Blue Dragon is twice as long as Eternal Sonata and it actually has side quests.

I agree Darc

Woah now. Blue Dragon craps all over Eternal Sonata in every imaginable way.

- Dungeon Design

- Combat System (many like ARPGs better, but BD's actual combat & skill system is one of the most polished for a turn based RPG)

- Music (slightly edges ES out. Both are fantastic, but Uematsu is king)

- Story

- Difficulty (and you get hard mode!)

- Linearity (very few sidequests in ES...Tons to explore in BD)

- Length (Blue Dragon is at least 50hrs. Eternal Sonata is under 30..Even if you 1000/1000 each game, BD is longer).

There's really no comparison if you take a cold hard look. Many prefer ES because of the fact it has slightly less JRPG cliches due to the art style, and storyline. However, Blue Dragon perfects the JRPG cliche, and gives you a deep, involved combat system inside of a semi-cheezy storyline. Eternal Sonata doesn't give you that. I'd rate Eternal Sonata a 7.75-8.0, and Blue Dragon a 8.5-8.75. LO still beats both, however.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Bought Eternal Sonata but haven't played it yet because I'm playing Blue Dragon and I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm on disc 2 and around 24 hours play time. I don't particularly care for the characters (Shu and Marumaro are annoying), but I like the combat system, encounter circle and monster fights. The music is good (can't go wrong with Uematsu), although the cheesy 1980s hair metal-esque song for boss fights made me say WTF and laugh. I played Enchanted Arms prior to Blue Dragon, so it wasn't necessarily going to take much to impress me and improve upon EA.

I'll get to Eternal Sonata once I've beaten BD. It's nice to hear the game is shorter than BD because I'm going to try complete them before Tales and IU are released. I'll eventually get around to LO but decided to keep what people consider the best jrpg on the 360 for last.

get eternal sonata its a good rpg, the story is ok and the battle system is decent.

I'm going to get Eternal Sonata sometime this Fall as well, but my only decision left is whether I should get the "enhanced" PS3 version, or get the 360 Version for around $20 less.

Hmmmm...I'm shocked by this point of view being shared between a good few people.

Fair enough, I really didn't feel for the main character at all in BD, the music was mostly forgettable apart from the boss music, which was shit but in a JRPG way so kinda liked it...

I know this sounds terrible but I preferred enchanted arms.....maybe for the whole campyness of it though.

Hey each to their own, quite surprised though.

Sorry to go on...But that Nene bad guy in BD....what is he all about, not exactly a super villain by any strech of the imagination!

I wouldn't say terrible but the last couple parts of the game are definitely rushed, some subtitles are missing, less and less voice acting and cutscenes, it seems like they ran out of money to finish the game.

Actually any DnD player would find NeNe to be the perfect super villain? What is he? Obviously he's a kobold one of the most broken races in the DnD world with over 3 characters that can have either infinite skills, stat points, or etc. Nene is obviously Pun-Pun who forgot to kill a god to get his immortality. Google pun pun, if you're too lazy basically he's a kobold with inifinite stats.
