Woah now. Blue Dragon craps all over Eternal Sonata in every imaginable way.
- Dungeon Design
- Combat System (many like ARPGs better, but BD's actual combat & skill system is one of the most polished for a turn based RPG)
- Music (slightly edges ES out. Both are fantastic, but Uematsu is king)
- Story
- Difficulty (and you get hard mode!)
- Linearity (very few sidequests in ES...Tons to explore in BD)
- Length (Blue Dragon is at least 50hrs. Eternal Sonata is under 30..Even if you 1000/1000 each game, BD is longer).
There's really no comparison if you take a cold hard look. Many prefer ES because of the fact it has slightly less JRPG cliches due to the art style, and storyline. However, Blue Dragon perfects the JRPG cliche, and gives you a deep, involved combat system inside of a semi-cheezy storyline. Eternal Sonata doesn't give you that. I'd rate Eternal Sonata a 7.75-8.0, and Blue Dragon a 8.5-8.75. LO still beats both, however.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
