Forums - Sony - GT5 - No crash damage. Also, is it getting delayed?

Actually, on the drive home from work today, I saw a car wedged between a semi truck and a Jeep Cherokee. I couldn't really make out the car as the trunk and engine compartments were pretty much gone. Amazingly enough though the driver was still in the car (cause he couldn't get out since the doors were wedged shut.) I'm almost positive this was a less than 45 mile per hour hit as well.

For a racing game to implement real damage would make the cars completely useless in a game. Arcade damage (or Nascar damage as I like to call it) is another thing all together. Nascars glance each other and the whole fender flies off. If it were a stock car (like those used in GT) the car would either flip, bend a tie rod, rim, blow a tire or one of many other things that would make the car unfit to continue.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Weak. F***in' weak, man.

I was looking forward to GT5 and it was one of the games that made me want a PS3. Now, I won't be buying it. After dedicating well over 100 hours to Forza 2 already, I won't take a step back in simulation racing, even if the game has better graphics.

Oh be honest... you were never looking at the PS3 ;)

Heheheh, yeah I was and I still am. I figure by the time it's $400, there will be enough games I want for it to justify a purchase. And GT5 was one of those games I was looking forward to. It's disappointing that Polyphony isn't trying to compete a little harder with Forza 2. The game has a lot of great features I would like to see in GT5.

What a joke

I played the shit out of GT3, then was dissappointed when GT4 added cars and tracks, nothing more. This series refuses to evolve, and this is why I no longer care about it.

Screw GT

Forza's damage is a joke, any one that buys into it is not looking for a "sim"

Every car is damaged the same way no matter what.  You never lose the hood or a wheel even if you slam into a wall at 140mph, how is that realistic ?  Any one who champions Forzas damage is NO real racing fan or "sim" fan.

If you do something do it right.

Damage for racing cars, in car view, online.  Not evolving.

LOL

What a sad exuse... GT5 is even less of game now.

No: Without damage modeling, GT5 is even more of a game now, and less and less a simulation.

It might seem like a joke to you, but I somehow find the fact I can crash my car at well over 320kph against a wall and simply bounce off, lose a bit of speed and continue hurtling down the track without any sort of damage to the car a much much bigger joke.

Every car is damaged the same way no matter what. You never lose the hood or a wheel even if you slam into a wall at 140mph, how is that realistic ? Any one who champions Forzas damage is NO real racing fan or "sim" fan.

Let's paraphrase what you just said:

"Every car is undamaged in any way no matter what. You never lose anything at all - not even car paint, even if you slam into a wall at 140mph, how is that realistic? Any one who champions GT5's utter lack of damage is NO real racing fan or "sim" fan."

Personally, I prefer some damage modeling to none at all. Especially on so-called arcade games that certain developers have the gall to label as "sims".

If you do something do it right.

I guess GT5 has done "right" because they don't have damage modeling in a racing "sim"? How about GT5 doing the "right" thing and start calling itself "The Real Arcade Driving Game" instead of "The Real Driving Simulator"?

What a joke.

I know! Polyphony have cojones the size of Texas to bill their "matchbox physics" racing game a simulation!

Damage for racing cars, in car view, online. Not evolving.

LOL

No damage for any cars. Not evolved at all. Online? Forza had it all along. Evolving because it's now on a console that can push more polygons so the cars look more realistic?

LOL

You guys are all crazy, if they had real damage to the cars all you guys would complain that the game is to hard, and you would all turn it off and cry on the forums, maybe you should try racing in the game without hitting the wall or other cars, if you can come in first place without even goin off the track then maybe you can complain about no damage , but all you others should just shut up, and go play burout.

Yeah, people would complain just like they do in Forza 2. Oh wait, they don't. Almost all the hardcore Forza guys love the sim damage setting. It completely changes the way you race because a poorly timed overtaking manuever can put you out of the race for good. It adds an intense element to the game and requires additional strategy and skill to win.

Plus, it eliminates the "slide 'n' bang" strategy that is almost universally used in multiplayer GT games. Enter a corner, pitch it sideways, and knock your opponent off their line while taking their place and overtaking them. Without damage, I can only imagine how cheap some of the victories will be online. Just take your opponent out, there are no repurcussions for doing so.
