Forums - Gaming - NPD: PC the Most Popular, PS3 Owners Most Likely to Have Multiple Consoles

You guys are too logical for your own good.

Not everything follows a logical pattern. I call bullshit on this "People who buy the PS3 are generally more wealty because the PS3 costs more".

Total and utter bullshit.

There's so much more to this than money...

Do you lot not remember being kids? Do you not remember some of your friends getting the latest and greatest, even though they were poor as chuch mice (sutpid parents)?

The PS3 has an elitist image (inherited from the PS2). It is "the" thing to own...

Take europe, in the UK we don't really go with that crap (as much). But europeans are terrible for it.

Sorry I'm going off on one, I don't think any conclusion can be drawn in regards to price\wealth of owner of any of the consoles.

The PS3 is not priced so high that the average person can't afford it, if it were then I wouldn't be spouting my bollox.

Expect the average age of a console owner is in the 30's, so kids don't apply.

Also, when you poll people (on this site, and anywhere else) why they don't have a PS3, it's always Price that is by far the main answer. When you ask this of why people don't own a 360, it's almost never price.

This could have something to do with perceived value. A 360 at $300 is a far better return on investment then a PS3 at $400.

The people who own PS3, seem to care less about the value, and more about the functionality.

Those people have more money. Sorry, it's just the truth.

It's likely that PS3 owners are likely to be richer/older so are able to spend more on their gaming needs , i dought it's due to the PS3 being inadeqeut

The last time they had an NPD report on it PS3 people were the youngest and poorest.  Though that was back when the console was $600

Link?

I remember this being the exact opposite on every report I have seen.

Yes, I also want a link...That makes no sense whats so ever. I never knew people that could afford a 600 dollar system were the poorest...The youngest? Yea right...

I know there are exceptions to every rule, but let me just speak for myself.  My intitial PS3 purchase with games, movies, and accessories totalled almost $1,000 back in May of 2007 here in the U.S.  Technically speaking, a credit card was used, but the funds were already accounted for in our checking account.  So in principle, we DIDN'T buy on credit.  I'm 36 years olds while my wife and I make around six figures together.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

Remember the thread? No, but usually when corrected people tend to remember they were corrected and assimilate said info.

For example, if someone claims the national sport of Canada is hockey, and it is later proven to be Lacross. Several months later, the person still remembers the national sport of canada is Lacross.

It's kinda annoying to see someone say like, the exact thing verbatem after already been proven wrong. It makes conversations tedious as the same thing has to be said over and over again. Probably was a bit rude though, sorry. Non-assimilation of info when proven to the contrary is one of my pet peeves though.

Though are you saying now the 360 and PS3 have less "hardcore" gamers? That's the segment the "Heavy Gamer" segment refers to.

I'm impressed. Most Canadians don't even know that.

Of course, it doesn't help that none of our TV stations broadcast "Lacross Night in Canada."

Hey that fact won me a LOT of money in the 6th grade.  Well i suppose it's not a bet when you know the answer... but hey.  Either way, everyone in my suburb knew it... after i won a dollar each from them anyway.

Hm.  That average flies well against every other study i've seen on it.

Including this very study in the OP in some ways.

I'll have to download this and take a look at their methods section.

I have a ps3 and a broken DS... and I used to have a psp b4 my ps3..... same goes for my old ps2.

4 ≈ One

I know of a heck of a lot more people who are older, have a good career, and make 100k+ who WANTS and HAS a wii than the equivalent group that went for a PS3/360.

Face it, the hardcore/extreme gamer are in general kiddies who have too much free time.

Oh... and who doesn't play solitaire every now and then????

You're arguing about this on the internet... People who tend to (but not all) argue points on forums like to do selective reading.

Hm. No methods section in the download. That's depressing.

I do see a problem though.

According to them NOBODY under the age of 18 owns or uses a console.

So that REALLY skews the data.

Either they are counting who owns the console (Aka parents) or they are just leaving off the most important and most rabid of consumers who purchase stuff... or at the very least get their parents to.

I don't even understand why they think this study would be useful for anything.

Seriously if you download the PDF the first breakdown on the graph is 18-24.

So without knowing which way they went... ignoring everyone under 18, or counting their parents as the owners it's hard to draw conclusions.
