npd is not providing numbers for the few hundred of us that watch on as a hobby. it's for thousands of investors that watch this industry, it's for the thousands that work in this billion dollar industry to see marketing trends, this data tells publishers what games are selling, what systems are selling. And it's for the tens of thousands that work in retail the NPD group sells this data to retailers so they can stratagize sales, based on what's going on. It's a business, and in my opinion the system they have in place is rather poor. check out their site if you want to see for yourself : NPD Home site Also I can't find it now but an industry site how a long artical also complaining that npd's releases weren't timely enough for the industry needs.

Are you going to post the numbers when they come in Bunkum?

fooflexible said: Seriuosly what is the problem with NPD numbers? Neilson can tell me by noon the next day how tv shows made out from the night before, I can find out on Sunday how well the box office did fri thru sunday. It's similiar for music and book charts too. Even Japan's Media Create can give us weekly sales figure within four days of a week ending. Why does NPD take 20 days to give us monthly sales? It has to be the absolute worst sales charts system for any industry or country in the world. And the American video market is worth way too much to put up with that. I'm sorry but please tell me a better way is coming.
It's called a monopoly. And sadly, I don't see it changing anytime soon.

These are the same numbers posted on Thursday. Can they be authenticated?

Are those real or is there going to be another fiasco with babies dying and fanboys' heads exploding?

There are actually 3 things which would surprise me if these are the actual numbers ... 1) The Wii outsold the DS 2) The PS3 outsold the PS2 3) The PS3 outsold the XBox 360 If this is true, I suspect that we will be hearing further rumors that the XBox 360 will have a price-cut/new-system because (in my opinion) it would demonstrate that everyone who wanted an XBox 360 for $400 had probably bought one ...
