Seems like blue ray is not all its cracked up to be. Oh well I have a 55 inch at home but now i prefer movies on demand and don't use discs unless they are given to me.
Love is whats most important.

Actually, 300 was one of the movies I got to compare (it was one of the ones I replaced so I had both versions for a day or so) and I couldn't really tell a difference.

Theres your anwser. If you do buy BR, buy for movies shot in HD(Planet Earth and ????) or because of exclusive Blu features.
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Actually the only special features I ever use are deleted scenes and every now and then commentaries for movies/directors I really like and DVD's generally have those.
Hell yes it's worth it and it makes a huge difference, at least in my eyes. I thought the DVD of The Departed looks like absolute shit on my 1080p 37" LCD TV even from 8 feet away. It's a blurry mess. But reading a couple reviews of the DVD version, I found out that people thought it was an excellent transfer. Really? I was under the impression that it absolutely sucked.
So for me, it's definitely worth it.
Pretty cool comparison of LOTR HD vs DVD:

A ton more detail, much better colors, much better black levels, etc.

i can really tell the diferences my tv shows every single pixel on a 480p image. it just looks a lot more cleaner and brighter and sharper when watching a blu-ray not to mention you get to see a lot more on the screen.
I remem watching a film with bruce willis and samuel jackson in, and bruce willis was doing weights and on a blu-ray you get to see all the weights but on standard dvd it cuts that part of the screen off, so obviously just for that reason along blu ray is better
I havent felt the urge to upgrade from DVD to Blu-Ray. My PS3 was bundled with a blu-ray movie and i traded it back in to the store there and then!
The picture quality increase just isnt enough for me to buy a film i already own. And a lot of Blu-Ray discs lack the special features that DVDs have.
So there

No, please do. That's kind of why I asked the question. And yeah, I can't tell the difference and I'm wondering if most other people can't. I know I've asked many people at work the same question and all of them can't except for a single person and he's a huge video snob. |
if you have a hdtv, bluray looks stunning next to dvd, you can tell the difference str8 away especially in clarity and colours. also the sound is also miles better.
i bought ghost rider on bluray and the old dvd that i had of that film doesnt come close. in short it looks and sounds better, well better imo
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk
really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...
BluRay really isn't the reason why I bought a PS3 nor would it ever be. But it is a nice bonus, I have not bought a BluRay movie yet (since i can get stuff off the internet and watch it on my 32inch monitor and my Z5500) but I'll have to get Ironman and batman when it comes out on bluray because I want it on my shelf. In the end it doesn't really matter since I buy every console anyway.
I think buying Blu-rays is only worth it if you have a big full-HDTV (42 inch+), a good surround set and can afford the higher price.
Actually a really noticeable difference in quality of bluray vs dvd I found was wild hogs (they didareally good job for the qualiy) Also since you live in the U.S you can get Blu Rays for really cheap (as low as $4) at half.com. Here's the link with the blurays, unfortunately the bastards dont ship outside the U.S(I'm in Canada)
