Forums - Microsoft - Square wants FFXIII on 360 because of “the success of our console,” says Microsoft

ok....that was an angry post....lol. But anyway, when Halo 3 launched, it had an attach rate of about 50% in the US (360's only strong hold):

And when I looked at attach rates, and compared it to what he was trying to make a talking point out of relative to the 360, that's when I compared the two different genres of games.

Edit: I forgot about Project Sylpheed.....is THIS game's "success" a contributing factor to SE's decision?

yeah that is the reason it does not take a genius to figure it out

OMFG I thought they paid them billions? Who could have EVER guessed??

they have obviously paid for the simultanious release though.

i agree 100%

If Square-Enix really made the FFXIII decision based on a console's success, then its choice of platforms would look very different.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Project Sylpheed's not a JRPG. It's a Wing Commanderesque take on the old Silpheed games.

I just looked that game up....but it still doesn't change the fact that the 360 didn't rake SE any money in with it. The VP said "SE simply couldn't ignore the 360s install base".....yet they embraced it before (twice) and it resulted in dismal failures (twice)

If Square Enix really supports the 360 because of "the success of our console" and not because "of the size of our checkbook", why aren't they putting any games on Wii (well, apart from those that are sequel from Gamecube games like FFCC)?

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Speaking at E3 Xbox global marketing director Albert Pennello scotched rumours that any kind of “behind the scenes” maneuvering has gone on to get FFXIII on 360, saying that Square simply can’t ignore the machine’s install base.

“I think a lot of people assume a lot of things about why Square made that announcement,” he said, talking in MundoRare. “I think the most obvious reason that they made the announcement is just looking at the success of our console. I mean, we’re the leading console on a worldwide basis, we’re more than double the install base on the US.

“I actually think it’s a great partnership. Square has done games for us in the past, and I think there’s a point where Square just has to look at the Xbox 360, the install base and attach rates that we’re seeing and actually has to make a decision on their own that it’s the right thing to do for them.

“So, I think people make a lot of assumptions about what they read or the rumours that go around, but the reality of a lot of this is that we’re doing very well, we have a great install base, we have passionate gamers like you guys that buy a lot of games, and a publisher like Square can’t ignore that.

“I think it’s easy to assume that something’s going on behind the scenes, I think the more obvious answer is we’re doing really well and the game creators want their games to be where the most people and the most consoles [are], and right now that’s the Xbox 360.”

Theres A video interview through the link where he talks about avators and Japan as well.

Worth checking out.

Heres A link to the story above.

The underlined portion is interesting. Does Microsoft no longer consider Nintendo either a) a competitor any longer and given in to Nintendos claims of "being in a different category" or b) a company in which they can catch up to this generation?

Just kiss the tip.
