Forums - Microsoft - Square wants FFXIII on 360 because of “the success of our console,” says Microsoft

Speaking at E3 Xbox global marketing director Albert Pennello scotched rumours that any kind of “behind the scenes” maneuvering has gone on to get FFXIII on 360, saying that Square simply can’t ignore the machine’s install base.

“I think a lot of people assume a lot of things about why Square made that announcement,” he said, talking in MundoRare. “I think the most obvious reason that they made the announcement is just looking at the success of our console. I mean, we’re the leading console on a worldwide basis, we’re more than double the install base on the US.

“I actually think it’s a great partnership. Square has done games for us in the past, and I think there’s a point where Square just has to look at the Xbox 360, the install base and attach rates that we’re seeing and actually has to make a decision on their own that it’s the right thing to do for them.

“So, I think people make a lot of assumptions about what they read or the rumours that go around, but the reality of a lot of this is that we’re doing very well, we have a great install base, we have passionate gamers like you guys that buy a lot of games, and a publisher like Square can’t ignore that.

“I think it’s easy to assume that something’s going on behind the scenes, I think the more obvious answer is we’re doing really well and the game creators want their games to be where the most people and the most consoles [are], and right now that’s the Xbox 360.”

Theres A video interview through the link where he talks about avators and Japan as well.

Worth checking out.

Oh OBVIOUSLY.  And by obviously (a word that should only be used when something is a fact) you have complete knowledge of this.  But of course it's just your opinion, so it's irrelevant when you act like it's a fact.

So they're going to delay the release of a completed game purely because of the "success" of the 360.

That's a whole lota success then.

well common sense should have told them that...

you have a machine with around 20 mil and a machine that is around 15 mil to sell to

compared to

only selling to a market that is half the size....kinda a no brainer

M$ payed him to say that!

Wait he works for them... see!

Ok I didn't read the entire thing after I got to the point about attach rates, after that bit of blur everything just started to not make sense.

If that's the way Square is looking at it FFXIII Wii/Ps2/DS/PSP confirmed?

Not saying money hatting was going on, but I wouldn't be looking at attach rates for placing my product on the market, at least not if I wanted my product to sell.

But I'm sure SE knows what they're doing, I mean it not like they havent been Bankrupt, so they know how to bounce back.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

I heard it was seven trillion.

they want it on there because of the success of the console? Yeah, because Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, and Enchanted Arms sold millions.....wait...they didn't.

I think, no, I know SE only put it on there because of a fat check from M$...I mean, come on, the PS3 version is gonna be done at least 6 months before the 360 version, yet it's having a simultaneous release? But then when the PS3 version of Last Remnant isn't done, they won't make a simultaneous release for that version? WTF!

"I mean, we’re the leading console on a worldwide basis, we’re more than double the install base on the US."

First bold: Wrong, the Wii is

Second Bold: And that's your only foothold, everywhere else, you're being dominated

"I actually think it’s a great partnership. First bold: FFXI?

Second bold: Like the less than 10% attach rate for the current JRPGs on the platform, but over 50% attach rate for shooters?

"I think it’s easy to assume that something’s going on behind the scenes, I think the more obvious answer is we’re doing really well and the game creators want their games to be where the most people and the most consoles [are], and right now that’s the Xbox 360"

First bold: He just downplayed, or rather, made it clear that money was involved

Second bold: Wrong again....Wii
