Forums - Sales - Nintendo: Third-Party Games Not Selling on Wii is a False Assumption

Nice chart, that really proves the point! But I guess 3rd party games sell well on wii, if they are kiddy/minigames. :)

considering the wii have x2 userbase of the ps3 it should sell double software on third party
but it doesn't, ps3+xbox360 make it looks pale in comparison.

It would be more convincing he she hadnt just mixed the first and third party sales.

Besides ,I wouldnt believe anything presented in such a way as this girl has.

@Diomedes1976

I feel your last comment is a bit condescending.
I imagine that Nintendo's VP is over age 18.
That means you don't believe anything presented in such a way as this WOMAN has.

While I tend to defend the Wii, I feel this answered only the "software sells" question and agree with all -- including Diomedes -- that the mixed chart is misleading.

However, it is not as simple as some would like to make it be to just remove first-party titles and say that Nintendo should be selling 2x third-party than Sony (because of their install base) because Sony does not offer as much as Nintendo first-party (on one does) and because there are third-party developers who do games for the PS3 but not the Wii.

The other chart is in another thread -- and it shows that the Wii did as well as the Xbox in third-party sales through the first 19 months of the console.

Yes, but Wii games don't count because they're all mini-games, or kiddie games, or licensed games, or from a famous series, or have Mario in it, or have too much color, or strive to be fun, or don't have enough guns, or lack tits, or haven't oustold GTA IV, or worst of all are on the Wii and contradict what I fervently if misguidedly need to believe.

Get with the program, dude.

3rd party? You mean like Cookin' Mama? Or Mario and Sonic, which was actually made by Sega, but would sell regardless because its a Mario and Sonic, or games like Guitar Hero that sell because they are what they are?

When people discuss 3rd party titles on the Wii, they talk about the like of Okami, No More Heroes, and Zack and Wiki, not about the TONS and TONS of shovelware that gets ate up by the little kids.

I want you to read this line again. Very carefully. And then come back and tell me why all of us are pointing and laughing at you. I can wait.

This one too.

No, actually, they don't. What they mean by "third party games" is "third party games", not "only games BMaker11 likes." It's confusing, I know, but believe it or not there is a distinction!

I'd also add that the games you cherry-picked hurt what I can only assume is your thesis, as those games have all met or exceeded their publishers' expectations. I'm just sayin'.

So..."I don't like it, therefore it doesn't count, and it's now officially kiddy"? Are you REALLY resorting to that? Come now, I know you're better than that!

#1 If it didn't sell because it simply was a mash up of Mario and Sonic...you know, the old time rivals, then why else did it sell like 5 million? People on this site are the ones that told me that it was because of the characters involved that it sold that much, when I first saw that it sold so well...so those people aren't laughing at me, they're agreeing.

#2 Guitar Hero DOES sell because it's GH....GH3 is considered far WORSE than GH1 and 2 yet it sold MUCH more.

#3 Fine the Wii sells 3rd party games, the likes of Carnival Games, Mario and Sonic, Excite Truck, etc...all sell millions. But then when higher profile games flop on there, do you really think a big game is gonna get released on there? There have been recent articles about how Nintendo is "abandoning the core gamer" and the proof is in the sales. Carnival Games: near 2 million, Okami Wii: less than 300K. How is selling less than even 500K "meeting expectations" when those numbers are considered commercial flops?

#4 Shovelware isn't "I don't like it therefore it doesn't count". It's how the Wii has the lowest average games score between the big 3....why? Because of shovelware.

http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2008/02/12/wii-average-game-scores-markedly-lower-than-competition

There are high quality games in the library, but so much shovelware (from 3rd parties, that tend to sell millions eg Sonic and the Secret Rings) throws off the average.....
