Forums - Gaming - Nintendo Thumb?

I use to get it as a kid (never messed up my hand, just made my thumb sore and the skin a little raw after really long sessions).

Maybe you have fat fingers? :-p

Iv never gotten that, and Iv been playing Nintendo consoles since 1991

the only thing i got from video games was dbz knuckle where in clashing blasts you had to press buttons as fast as possible. Obviously rubbing a kunckle against it quickly was the fastest way. and so i developed terrible burns....

I got the 'Nintedo thumb' playing a friends xbox (original, 360 controllers are fine)

I'm very familiar with Nintendo thumb.

- The worst Nintendo thumb by far is "Gameboy Thumb" from the original grey brick.

- I get DS and PSP thumb frequently.

It's painful and it makes it hard to move your thumb at the first joint. Swells up sometimes. I just play through the pain if it's a good game. Those mighty endorphins released by sweet-sweet gameplay make the pain go away (until I finish playing).

I used to get that playing hours of RC Pro-am with my father.

You weak thumbed simple minded fool, muahmauahahahahahhahaahahahhahakeahahahaahawhoahahah.

But seriously, how does this come about, video games require such little effort I don't honestly see how this can happen unless excessive force is applied on the buttons.

It's not like any of the buttons on the newer controllers(even the original grey gameboy) were hard to press buttons. I've experienced hard to press buttons on a older system I've tried out, though I have no clue which one, their names blend together.

My thumb is old. I play games like Taiko no tatsujin and Daigasso Band Bros. Lots of very quick and repetitive key-mashing. Twenty years or so ago if I played SMB or Tetris for more than four hours straight it would usually jack up my thumb. I figure it's an occupational hazard.

We used to call it "Street Fighter thumb" back when Street Fighter II was released on the SNES. Other games had the same effect, but none punished the thumb like SFII on the SNES did.

I only occasionally get it now with the DS. Metroid Prime Hunters and Mario Kart DS were the two most recent that caused it. I think it has a lot to do with the small d-pad and how cramped your hand can be when using the DS.

"I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself."

I never got that... I guess I'm just not hardcore enough

I get it, my right thumb begins to ache after an hour or so of playing. I think at time it actually sways me to play my PC more lol.
