How is RROD/noise eliminated?

Also, the drive will only be quite when you've install the whole disc into your HDD, just remember that the drive when active is spinning very fast and the only real way to eliminate the noise generated is to make the drive spin the DVD at a slower RPM.

RROD was caused by heat that made the motherboard bend which broke sodder joints. Now that there will be less heat there wont be any bending or virtualy no bending of the motherboard.

yes I understand that, but one can't calim that it's "eliminated" RROD when it hasn't been on the market long enough to see weather it's true or not. Just saying that's all.

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Yippie! I have my fingers crossed as I count down to September 20th (the day I go to buy my 360).

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Maybe you should see how long you can keep it on before it #$%^&* on you. I know a person who left their PS3 on for months (3 to be exact) and its still running. He did that just to make sure it won't die on him if he kept it on for a long period of time. If I remember, a house burned down not long ago because of the 360 since it was left on.

Its like you are doing a science experient with what you are doing lol.

Needs moar temp readings. Good to see that MS is finally doing something about the problem...

ben heck dissected the new 60gb and said that it was the exact same (except for the placement of the ram chips and 30 watts less power supply unit) as the previous model and I trust his word more.

Inside a 60 gig Xbox 360

Well of course I couldn’t resist grabbing one of these, and since I need parts anyway for an upcoming contest, why not?

“60 GIGA PRO-GEAR SPEC” would be a lot catchier.

The big question of course is whether or not this unit has the new 65nm GPU… check out the photos below to see!

The box. They stuck on a sticker, but the box print has 60 on it as well. I would have put an exclamation point after “hard drive!” but that’s just me…

FYI this unit was built on 6-20-08 and is lot # 825.

There it is. Now your Xbox can have the same size hard drive as a 4 year old laptop. Personally I don’t see why the Xbox & Ps3 are so hung up on hard drive space, you either have one, or you don’t (ahem Wii) I never even filled up my old 20 gig’er, personally…

Looks normals so far. Current 65nm CPU & heatsink… same old “super” GPU heatsink. I bet a lot of the cost reduction on the 360 was getting rid of the old heatpipe/copper CPU… copper is pretty costly these days!

A close-up of the DVD drive specs, for those who care.

Ah, I have found a difference! This is the first Xbox 360 I have seen that does not have the bottom-mounted memory chips. I had heard on the interwebs these have been a heat problem in the past (or moreso that people fixed problems by improving their heat sink to the case) so I’m sure this will help performance as well as aid cost reduction.

And here’s the GPU… and it’s the same. Can’t say I’m surprized… the first Elites didn’t even have the improved GPU heatsink, and the 65nm CPU’s didn’t roll out (or rather because easily obtainable) until about 4 months after they were of supposed to have appeared.

The power supply is the real kicker for new Xbox 360 owners to check. The old model was 206 watt… the new ones with a 65nm CPU are 175 watt (as shown)… and likely any model with a 65nm GPU will be around 140-150 watts.

Well, there it is, the insides of a new Xbox 360 60 gig unit. Take it for what you will.

The issue with that dissection is that it means very little. Last year, there were Arcade models with all of the goodies that were non-Falcons. Falcons started popping up in August 2007, and the Arcade model started selling in October 2007.

The issue is that Microsoft can easily put the 60GB HDD on any given Xbox 360, and call it a 60GB HDD without Jasper modifications. It's very probable that you can find a 60GB HDD with actual mods, and the one Mr. Heck got did not have them....Look at Squilliam's post to see that there are some that indeed show significant advantages over Falcons.

As time goes on, we will find out exactly what Jaspers have inside of them. But if Squilliam's post is indeed true, then the Jaspers would be a little bit more noticible than what Ben Heck's 60GB would show.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

^ It's possible that some units of 60gb have Jasper and some dont. I expect though that by September they will all be Jasper.:)

100 Watts definately seems Jasper. And to those mentioning the disc spinning noise, I think the OP was meaning the loud hum noise from the fans that is gone. Whenever you used to fire a game up the fans would go into overdrive and sound like a vaccumm cleaner. Good to know thats gone.:)

Also if you buy a 60gb unit and install the game you won't really have much noise at all. Im thinking of getting an Elite later this year and installing all my games.

Tease.

There will be a mix of Falcon and Jasper MoBos probably through the end of 2008 as Falcon stock is depleted from assembly line stock bins and replaced with Jasper stock. Same situation as last year between the transition from the Zephyr to the Falcon.

It's going to take some time which is why now is probably not the best time to be buying a 60GB SKU if that is an issue for you. That and the rumor the price of the 60GB is dropping $50 later this year after 20GB stock is depleted.

I'd wait until it is determined which lot numbers are using the Jaspers, which will very likely be shipped with smaller power supply bricks once Falcon stock is depleted, along with the 175 watt PSUs.
