Forums - General - The Death Sentence

Here's a good one.  This idea came from the other thread talking about the Mexican dude who was killed off recently for raping 2 girls.

Do you believe in the Death Sentence or not?  Explain your reasoning and your alternatives to the death sentence.

Plus if someone can answer this:  Does it cost more tax payer dollars to execute someone or let them serve life in prision?  That one might be common sense but I just want to be sure.

The Death Sentence is nothing new, something that has been around for thousands of years.  I'm for it if the criminal's actions justify putting him/her on death row.

Plus, let's be respectful of other people's opinions.  This kind of subject can really make people jump all over each other.

i figgure that most of the time if rapists get out and rape again...the system failed its not the crazy ass persons fault.....and killing people is not the answer.

I am for the death penalty. I feel that some people have no chance of rehabilitation, and if their crimes justify the death penalty then I have no qualms with it.

...

1)I don't believe in the death sentence. I see no point of killing a person, it wont make them regret doing what they did because they'll be dead. It will just effect his/her family which would be unnecessary.

2)Serving life in prison(I think). The reason been is because you can forget that their people. They waste space, they eat, they drink, they take showers,etc...

I think we should do like the brits and send our criminals to australia.

No because there are always going to be people wrongly convicted or set up by the police/others that are sentenced to death.

I'm definitely for it in certain situations. Giving a twisted and sick person a nice, air conditioned room with free food (and probably a TV or something) for the rest of his/her life is just not ample punishment for some crimes. (of course, ample care would have to be taken to make sure that the right person has been charged)

It shouldn't cost more to execute someone than to keep them in prison for the duration of their life, assuming legal fees aren't a huge problem.

i believe there are a number of situations where it could be used....but the individual has to be without any doubt guilty.

its cheaper to kill people than lock them up (providing they just arent chained up in someones backyard) . this factor should not be used to determine if we execute an individual.

I agree with life sentences as well as the death penalty, I forgot to mention that when originally posting this topic.

With some people DNA evidence proves them not guilty after they're already on death row; thus saving them just in time before they die for no reason.

I was reading something a while ago about someone who was wrongfully arrested almost 25 years ago for something that he didn't do but with recent technology DNA has proved him innocent and his neighbor guilty, so he received compensation for being in jail for that long and let free. Boy I would be pissed if that happened to me.

Its not an issue I feel that strongly about. I can really go either way.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
