Forums - Sony - Major pitfalls LBP will have to overcome to be a great game

This is not a discussion on sales of LBP but on the overall quality of the game.

I posted this earlier but thought I would make a thread about it to see peoples opinions

There's two major traps that LBP can fall into

1) Too much freedom- sometimes too much freedom in a video game isn't a good thing, leaving the player unsure of where to go or how to even get started can lead to a lot of confusion. Sometimes its a good thing to be pointed in a certain direction, it gives the player a sense of purpose.

2) Accessibility to good user created content- With so much user created content being made for LBP Sony has to find a way to sort the good from the bad and present it to the players, otherwise people are going to find themselves going through hours and hours of crap levels trying to find the creative goodies. Since LBP is so centered around the community it is imperitive that the developers find a way to reward the most dedicated users and highlight their creations. A good example of this is Halo 3. There is a section in the game called Bungie favorites that is updated every week featuring the best of the best community created content.

These are just my opinions, feel free to argue against them

I've read this already somewhere. Did you post this in some other thread and then decide it deserved its own thread?

And since when was this "doubt LBP" week? edit: ahhh...you said it in the OP.

...

Well, the main game does have a campaign mode, so there are 50 levels with bosses etc, though I am not sure if there is actually a story mode

I think there are going to be user ratings for levels, but I am not sure on that. The Kratos sackboy, my av, is enough to make the game incredible

If you read the post for two seconds you would have your answer. You would also see that I'm not bashing LBP but simply pointing out obstacles the developers will have to overcome in the game. Stop being so defensive and think a little

1- What do you mean by freedom? From the looks of it, you are talking about how to traverse the level. Honestly, that's going to be a level design issue since it's a side scrolling platform. You can only go up, down, left, and right and you're also able to move a little bit farther and closer to a certain extent. From the gameplay videos that the developers show off, it looks like level design is good. The question is going to be for users to create levels. Actually, stuff like direction is something they'll have to plan on (among many other things) otherwise their level might not be as popular.

2- The developers have already talked about a rating system where you'll be able to easily find the top rated user created levels.

Yea, those levels (I thought it was around 60) will have some sort of story to them. Obviously the extent of the story remains a mystery.

It has a single-player mode with at least 50 levels, and yes, they do have rating systems so the best will rise to the top.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

And if you read you'll find I didn't say you were bashing it, but instead doubting it as many are. Hard to bash something that isn't even out yet. Also I editted my post to reflect that you had mentioned it in the OP, but I'm sure you knew that.

On your actual topic, I believe that the first problem is solved by the levels they put in originally, and the second is dealt with by user reviews. Just as Monkeh said. Hell that was easy, perhaps I should go into game design.

Really, I think it's simple for people to bash something that's not out yet.

Nextbox and PS4 suck!

So have they revealed how finding the highest rated games will work? Will there be a site online that lists the highest rated levels or is it an in game feature?

By freedom I don't mean the levels that come with the game but the levels that the users create. For hardcore gamers I don't see this being a problem but most casuals wont have a clue where to start given a blank slate
