@dib8rman: You know, the points you listed are just the thing i'm after. Let's say that the gamertag would be used just like friendcodes are currently. Would it suck because of gamertag or how they are used? Now people say "friendcodes suck", while their complaints have nothing to do with friendcodes. In reality they complain how Nintendo (ab)uses friendcodes. Would friendcodes suck if they would be used as gamertag currently is?
And i know how Brawl online system works, i have one and it kinda sucks, i just can't see how friendcodes would be the reason why it sucks. I also have MKWii, which works perfectly with the friencode system, it even uses the console code.
@Burgles: You know, it's not about what the 360 userbase thinks, since i think M$ would like to expand its userbase and make more accessible system, which friendcode system is.
@EaglesEye: I actually brought out Miis as a screen name and friendcode as an address. Look, if gamertag would be used as friendcodes at the moment, would it be any better system? Or would a universal friendcode suck, if it would equal current gamertag system?
So far, we have had 3 options to add people as friends: 1. Add a friendcode. 2. Add someone online by hitting add as a friend. 3. Send an request to add people via message board.
Changing Mii doesn't make a difference, since changing a Mii doesn't change your friendcode, therefore only your screenname would change, friendlist would still exist.
Iwata was talking about making friendcode system better, not about ditching friendcodes. See Dib8ermans post to see how to make it better, that's what Iwata is talking about. From the standpoint of starting playing online, Nintendos current system is nearly perfect and doesn't need an improvement. What people complain, is lack of possibility to send messages and add people as friends online. Friendcodes have nothing to do with the two. If Nintendo wanted, they could have added even in-game videochat and automatically adding everyone as friends and still be using friendcodes.
@horriblebastard: So, if there would be a gamertag in in MSCF, and you couldn't add it, it would be better? Or would it be better if you could add your opponents friendcode by hitting a button "add as a friend"? See, the problem isn't the friendcode.
Ok, with the "same names and look alike Miis" you're just grasping straws. See my earlier post where i mention the leet geek.
Then, could you give me an example what can do with the gamertag, that is impossible to do with friendcodes?
When it comes to consoles online functionality, Wii seems to be the best out of the three, but its online gaming functionalities aren't up to par with PS360.
@Halogamer: Oh, i just lended it...
@Munkeh: Cartoony Miis in realistic shooter? Yeah. Why not. You'd just see the face and a name on a list. Looks like you're grasping straws too.
@Goddbless: Actually, i'm not saying that M$ has copied the system, i said that M$ took the most important step towards friendcodes. The functionality doesn't need to change in any ways, only the registration procedure. By going online, you'd get the ID (friendcode) and using the avatar you have, you'd have online account and a screenname ready. Now you'd only need to get people pay for online, which would be easier since people already would have their accounts.
