Working at bestbuy myself, I can see from the internal website that there are PS3 in tons of supply in everystore.

 

 

Well I recall a few people who also work at bestbuy on this site that go against what you just said. Contradicting information? I personally have seen only a FEW Playstation 3's in stock and all of those were 40GB.

who else here work at bestbuy? I would love to know, btw.

we aren't talking about "a few", we are talking almost no PS3, nothing else would explain such drastic drop in sales number.

I don't remember PS3 sales dropped this much in the eve of MGS bundle announcment.

i think you should just wait for NDP numbers because i dont think anyone can convince you that ps3 has shortages/not selling well, when the NDP number come we will see how well ps3 sold, right now its you against the sites numbers.

Best Buy 40GB in metro Montgomery-Birmingham area no where to be found. The largest population centers of the state. No 80GBs online either and it will not even let me search the area for them as well.  That is what you call a serious issue.

NPD/VG Chartz..... the outcome is gonna be the same..... 360 has whooped ps3 this month...... Wether you want to admit it or not.... FFXIII going to 360 had some impact...... sonys in trouble... deep trouble

why? if NPD comes out and stating PS3 sold 30% better than what VGC stated... would that convince other people here? All you will get is more people saying VGC > NPD.

 

the fact is, you can't convince people, they either see it or they don't. All I am saying is, I don't buy the whole "shortage" excuse, especially when I am not seeing any. (I saw wii shortage, i even saw the a bit of xbox shortage)

VGchartz to be off a week is possible... but unlikely.

VGchartz to be off an entire month is statistically... not impossible, but about as likely as me getting hit by lightning before i finish this post.

Unless Ioi changed the sources or formula or something, there is no reason or way for it to just usddenly be WAY off unless there is some sort of sampling bias where the numbers are being taken from Sony strong stores.

Also microsoft never admitted a shortage until after NPD numbers showed them behind.

Its not just the drop from MGS4, but the phase out of the old $399 40 gig sku as well. Gotta clear the channel before retailers will buy alot of the new 80 gig sku, even if its really a bit better priced at $399 than the 40 gig PS3 was.

Some of the inventory numbers are shall we say 'interesting' at the moment for 360 & PS3 at stores.

Our PS3 numbers for July (the week ending July 5 to the week ending Aug 2) are ~50k/week for the Americas...slightly better than before MGS4 as the case was in Japan.

if you don't take in account of what Sony had in store before the current quarter of shipment.. as well as making assumptions of how many is left in store after the period.

kinda silly for us to say "oh, sony's shipment number.. *blah blah blah*.. when we dismiss openly of any company's shipment number as "just shipped, not sold to customers"

If your numbers are somewhat under the shipped numbers at that point in time then you are probably about correct - shipped numbers cannot be used as sell through but they can be used to help verify it.

@Yakuzaice. Sony's quaterly report had their shipped numbers and VGC's numbers made sense in comparison with their shipped numbers.

 

That has nothing to do with what I am talking about. He said VGC is more accurate than NPD due to Sony's shipped numbers. Those numbers have no bearing on VGC's or NPD's accuracy in the United States.

 

Sure it does, when VGchartz numbers also match europe tracking frims and japanesse tracking firm numbers.

VGchartz lines up with Japan, Europe and Sony's numbers...

NPD doesn't line up with VGchartz... seems obvious.
