I think he's trying to say that once the PS3 get's down to $200.00, it will be like relaunching the console for the mass market.

Problem is getting down to $200.00 is far harder than he thinks and he fails to consider the other consoles potential for price cuts as well.

Human beings will convince themselves of anything as long as it fulfills their desires and ambitions, regardless of how true it is. We call this drive to believe against evidence "faith". Unfortunately for those who rely on it, "faith" always succumbs to "reality". I have nothing against faith, so long as it's used responsibly. But when people are going against reality over something as trivial as a video game console? Particularly when the individual in question is not even counting on this video game console for their survival in some crucial way? That's when I start to question just how much of a grasp of reality an individual has...

The short of it is that there will always be those who argue against reality simply because doing so somehow fulfills their own desires better than accepting reality does. And it's quite sad when it comes about over unimportant things, but what can you do?

Well said.  Rational people can look at the situation, analyze the facts and come up with the conclusion that the PS3 will not win this generation.

The problem is fanboys will look at what conclusion they wish to arrive at (PS3 domination) and grasp at any fact/statistic that might help achieve that goal.  When you do that you miss the underlying factors behind the trends and statistics and your reasoning/logic is flawed.

Those are shipments by quarter and by total in an aligned launch scenario. Notice how PS3 & 360 lag behind DS which lags behind Wii?

Wii has a shot 100m shipped LTD in 4 years, based on the fact that DS is projected to be at 98m shipped in four years 6 months from launch, and at 100m within three months of that at most.

All figures are in millions.

PS3 is tracking faster than Xbox 360 but all that does is guarentee it hits ~50m. Wii will be at 50m in early 2009 most likely.

I love how people are always like "OMG the PS3 is unsuccessful, it hasnt sold 20 Million yet!" when reality shows that it is only a little bit behind the PS2 at the same point in its lifecycle.  You can choose to see it, or you can choose to be ignorant.  Its up to you.

Trying to look at the big picture with the PS2 vs PS3 is deceptive, jedson, since their launch windows don't align at all. Try looking at region-by-region comparison, and you'll see readily enough that the PS3 is lagging significantly behind the PS2 in terms of relative launches in each region.

There's something about the PS3 not reaching 15 million yet... but I'm not seeing "OMG's" or "unsuccessful's". You might want to stop assuming everyone's after the PS3, just a suggestion.

Last year everyone said that the PS3 will never outsell the 360...
