Forums - Microsoft - The 13th 90+ Metacritic game is: Geometry wars! 27 reviews, 90% average.

I'm surprised anyone would be counting xbla games, afterall they are reviewed on a completely different curve to regular games. It's like comparing apples to oranges, you cannot just add them together and get a meaningful number.

Its the same curve that all nintendo Wii games get so I don't see why it wouldn't count.

GeoWars 2 and lets say...Boomblox...are exactly the same type of game. Bunch of different games where you compete for points.

I think Braid will be next!

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I predict both Braid and Geometry Wars 2 will eventually fall short of a 90+ Metascore, dragged down by late reviews.

If anything XBLA games are judged MORE harshly than disc-based games. It's as if reviewers forget they're $5-20 and compare them to full games. Official Xbox Magazine is one of the worst offenders.

NO XBLA game has a 90+ Metascore yet, even though there are plenty of great XBLA games. Some of the best XBLA games, like Pac-Man CE, Bomberman, N+, Uno, Catan, Doom, all have Metascores in the low 80s! To properly judge the quality of an XBLA game, I suggest adding at least 5 points to the Metascore.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

@Sinha - Ikaraga and Puzzle quest are both good XBLA games with 28/33 reviews respectively.

Geometry Wars has 27 reviews, so its not that likely to fall under 90 at this point.

I've said nothing?  Do you really not understand?  Because it's pretty fucking simple.  Yes, Wii games may not have any/all of those things, that's irrelevant.  An Xbox 360 disc game would be counted  on Metacritic even if it didn't have leaderboards or achievements, way to miss the point.

Are Wii and 360 disc games ROMs?  No.  Are XBLA games ROMs?  No.  Are VC games?  Yes.

Do you see the difference now?  Jesus fucking Christ...

Actually yes Wii and 360 games are ROMs (Read-Only Memory). Can I buy the game for the system easily? If yes, then it is a game on the system. If you want to count all 90% plus games on the system then you need to count everyone that can be reasonably expeted to be easily attained. It is irrelevant whether or not the game adds anything new for the latest iteration. Should FFXIII not count for the 360 because it will exist fully on there PS3 before it exists on the 360? No, of course not. That is the ridiculous assertion you are making.

You never know.  It has an average of 90.2% right now.  One 4 of 5 review would make it 89.9%

Except that its a "weighted" average and we don't know what different values they ascribe to different sites. I did some math before I found that out and it has more "scores" above the 90 mark than below, just from sheer numbers.

Could mean a highly weighted score in the mid-80s could kill it though. Having it bounce in and out of the 90 range would be fitting for the 13th title I suppose. Do they have a list for what sites actually are the most favored? If those are all out then I would agree it is probably locked in. Glad to see another quircky game actually get some respect.

Braid for sure, if not by crazy chance, then Castle Crashers. Geometry Wars 2's average is well deserved. The game is freaking awesome and addictive.

Braid is up to 90 on metacritic with 7 reviews now. We should keep an eye on it, it could be #14, which would be awesome, or it could fall just below - who knows?
