I'm just going to throw this out there.

The Wii hasn't had a major software release in NA since Wii Fit came out in May. Perhaps all of the pent-up demand from last holiday season has finally been satiated and the Wii needs something new to drive hardware sales.

Or maybe is really is just a blip or a shipment issue. Next week's sales will be worth watching.

I don't see any threads saying "ZOMG I FOUND 50 WIIS IN A STORE!!!1!! PHOTOS FOLLOW!".

So yeah, just a shipment issue.

Once Japan sales are up, there should be a better picture of WW Wii sales, although the average 40k is most likely.

Over the last month, since the production increases were in effect from 1.8m to 2.4m, note the relative stability in Wii sales compared to the months prior in which you can see a typical trend of an up week, followed by a low week, most likely accounted for by inventory shifts being directed to the NA region where demand relative to supply is still highest. Meaning, NA is the region where the Wii continually sells out regardless of inventory levels shipped to retail.

What this week's NA sales seem to indicate, is that a $50 price drop to the mid-range 360 does seem to shift consumer interest in the platform. More likely, these sales are from consumers who have been waiting in the wings for the price to drop, much as was the instance when the Pro dropped from the initial $399 to $349.

Perception that the current 20GB inventory clearing sale is a temporary measure, to be replaced by a $349 60GB SKU, may well be the impetus behind the rush to buy while the 20GB SKU is still "discounted/on sale."

We'll see what happens as 20GB inventory levels drop significantly below 60GB SKU inventory levels.

This also seems to indicate that more consumers are ready to make the jump to an HD console as the price becomes more mass market friendly. However, this doesn't explain why Core/Arcade sales never had a similar effect perhaps beyond a common perception that the lack of HDD makes them gimped.

Never before has a relatively simple component such as an HDD had such effects on sales for a console platform, considering that it is the key difference between all 360 SKUs.

If the rumored $199/299/399 pricing turns out to be correct, we may well see a lasting effect on 360 sales relative to the Wii.

The Wii "fad" is far from over, but consumer perception of its value relative to the 360 may be permanently altered due largely in part to the price, contrary to what some have been claiming, despite historical trends that demonstrate lower prices are directly proportional to mass consumer acceptance.

Xbox sales in america are great, sales might increase if there is indeed a price drop for the arcade.

Also i think Ps3 will also increase in sales after the supply issue is dealt with.

wii will also increase in sales when its supply issue is dealt with

Yup Wii will increase also like you said. What i cant wait for is the sales of all 3 this holiday season thats something to look foward to.

Now that you've said that, you certainly will. If Joel were here, you already would have.

PS3 really is dropping fast isn't it. I think those talking of suply problems really are milking it. The console sold what 350k in US in june? Which is about 80k a week. That was with a new game out. If you actually look at the pattern with GTA4 and the PS3 you notice it is the same. it goes from 95k on may 3rd (3 weeks after GTA4) to 50k on may 10th, then 40k on may 24th then 40k on 31st may.
So there is a pattern of the PS3 sales declining prior to MGS4 to average of 40k while in those weeks mentioned the 360 was averaging around 55k.

I think that the PS3 has just returned to it's pre MGS4 sales as statisticly it looks that way. There is nothing to suggest it should be selling 100% more. And as Sony nor any company have talked about there being one i think it is just Sony fans running damage control.

Wii sales are low, but the PS3 are lower than I expected. What happen with the 80 GB bundle?

I am going to throw my opinion into this...Fanboy tears, watch out!

1) I don't buy supply issues for the Wii or PS3. For the Wii, it just seems odd that it drops off so suddenly. Nintendo has had very solid sales in the US. Maybe the X360 price drop is finally starting to cut into the Wii's sales at $249.99? At any rate, this decrease in sales won't hurt Nintendo...They're mopping up everywhere else.

2) I don't buy into the PS3 supply issues. Want proof? Look at the supposed Xbox 360 supply issues in Febuary...When supply was sorted out, how much did sales boost? At best, we will most likely see the PS3 at 60,000/wk in the US if it's lucky.

Ultimately, I am very suprised that the X360 managed to sell so well this week in the US. I would of figured that supply for the 20GB's had been drying up (after selling 200,000-odd units in NA), but it's staying strong.

Personally, I think that the price drop is cutting in to both the PS3 and Wii sales - moreso the PS3 than the Wii...At $400 or more, I don't think consumers are really going to buy the PS3 forever - even if it comes with the 80GB HDD. We saw the Xbox 360, and PS3 last year, pre-price drop reach market saturation, and no one wanted to buy the consoles because they were just too overpriced. Both made moves and benefitted. I think with the Wii at $249.99 and the Xbox 360 moving to $299.99 for the most-promoted model, a $399.99+ console just isn't going to move a lot of units, especially without any must-have exclusives outside of 1-2.

It's not PS3-Doom, or WiiFad time. The market will do what it will do. This is just marketplace change as prices change, and consumers shift to what they feel is the most affordable console on the market, regardless of which one it may be.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
