Lol, true. I am playing through gears right now, and that together with the A-button doing everything (in other words, often doing what you don't want) makes for some annoying moments. Great game so far though, more variety in the missions than I expected.

 

 

Yeh that does get annoying, though the cover system does seem to work better than Uncharted's. I have actually had no problem with the d-pad in Gears, but as montana says, in AC I select the wrong weapon 50% of the time it seems, and I have very little idea which one is actually selected because the icon is so small on my tv.

With my playstations I am used to switching between analogue sticks and the d-pad for menu, but that just does not work on the Xbox

The 360 controller is made for anything but fighting games. The 360 controller excells in all Shooters, Action/Adventure, racers, sports, RPG's.

The PS3 controller excells at Action/Adventure, Sports, Fighters, RPG's, Wrestling Games.

PS3's controllers only weaknesses are: FPS, Racers.

Xbox 360's weaknesses: Fighters.

Everyone says I never say a bad word about microsoft...

The D-pad on the 360 is a bloody joke, its the shittiest D-pad ever made...ever ever ever...no words can sum up how crap it is.

...But its analogue sticks are brilliant compared to any official controller released, so it doesn't really matter.

(except for SF 2\IV and I've got a Hori stick for that)

I think I might just be the luckiest person on this site, my d-pad works perfectly. The first time I was at a friends house and used their d-pad I was wondering why does this controller suck so much?

I think I might have the only 360 controller with a working d-pad ever!

I think what he means by that is the R2 and L2 don't lend themselves well to those genres in comparison to the triggers on the 360 controller. In that case I would have to agree.

And I would third that. For FPS games, the mirrored analogs on the PS3 aren't as good as staggered analogs. Both suck compared to KBM but that's another story... For racers, you're allowed much finer control over the 360 triggers than the convex PS3 triggers (which are a ridiculous idea... who thought convex is a good shape for triggers?).

Were it not for the fact that the triggers are the most likely thing to break on the 360 controller and they break fairly easily, it would be clearly superior.  The other annoyance with the PS3's triggers is that they're way oversensitive IMO.  I'm sure that's great for FPS games but for pretty much everything else it sucks.
