In RPG's you have to like to do the same moves over and over to level up it can get really boring. Imagine having to press the jump button thousands of times to max up your acrobats skill level that would drive you insane.

I think you are thinking of oblivion or morrowind. In most Jrpgs that are turnbased or even realtime all of your stats grow at once rather than training something in particular. All you need to do is fight enemies. So I don't see your point.

Sorry I have not played a JRPG before only played the WRPG's. Oh crap there different.

Yep very different. They don't even seem like the same genres.

yeah they are not and you just explain why they are not RPG at the same time lol.... way to distroy a myth....everybody says RPG because you have somehow a turn base sys in some of them and a leveling system which is totaly hectic.... but hell people like to call those things RPG let them do....

Sorry, but I don't get what you are saying. Are you saying Jrpgs aren't really rpgs? If so then I agree. But I do have to mention that neither are Wrpgs.

that's what i'm saying :) WRPG well they get closer to the concept of the paper RPG or live action RPG... where you actually build your character its background and make choices that built his moral appearance, a game like NWN or Baldur's gate is closer to that after you have the private shards MMO's like Ultima online that are my personal favorite... I don't even bother boosting my skills.... i just roll play.... oh my that was a while ago though... I don't have time for that anymore anyway

Alright, but I don't see how that makes Jrpgs any worse. Just because they don't fit by the definition of an RPG doesn't mena they are bad games.

FF13 isn't that big of a deal then. Good. I heard that some of the PS2 games as of recent were very bad so I can see why this guy is not that excited.

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

I hate that people don't give JRPGs a chance.  Though some of the complaints are valid.

Its simply true JRPGs are weird.

did I say they were bad ???? no the problem is people are trying to compare JRPG vs WRPG vs what RPG is/was (what ever you get the point) I do like JRPG.... but come on FF is a real cliche of pop jap culture totally fabricated for the west.... enchanted arm was utter crap story wise and god damn stop doing gay ass shit love story.... now the day they make a JRPG around a more adult subject or jap animation now we are talking...
best example is pokemon.... are you serious??? do people actually realize how retarded that concept was ???? don't even try to defend that franchise there is absolutely nothing in it's defense, nothing... beside the fact that the thing might be cute....
now even take classic, like cowboy bebop, gohst in the shell, evangelion, tokyo godfather, akira, bleach, blood, hellbound, and a truck load of jap culture.... and they come up with the lamest of the lamest, they really think the jap animation fan base in the west is stupid....

I like JRPGs, but it is true that many are overly melodramatic and filled with the same cliches. But.... that's also fairly true of a lot of American games.

The ones that *aren't* melodramatic usually have no story at all and are just pure gameplay, or are geared toward younger players.

Some games really do try to be powerful character driven pieces (FF is a series that has been moving farther and farther away from that and more to Hollywood style shallow appeal), but its easy to slip into exagerrated and forced emotional contrivances when your characters fail to have the substance they should have.

I think its an unfair criticism to label all jrpgs as the same cliched stories and forced archetypes of good and evil, but I think in the case of Final Fantasy he may be right.

Do you really want to listen to an X boxer?

Ah, I guess not everyone is all hyped up about this game.

Here's my favorite paragraph

"Great, another game we have to pretend to be excited about. Now that Square's stunned the world and gone multi-format with its golden goose, we're all going to have to start pretending we're keen on sitting through 60-hours of tedious, sub-Hollyoaks, dramatic nonsense featuring the standard collection of Japanese video game cliches. "

The article also claims that the pictures are from the 360 version... (take with big grain of salt!)

You have to admire the balls it takes to put something like that up on a pro 360 website!!

What's crazy about this bullshit could be said about American shooters.

"Great, another shooter we have to pretend to be excited about. We're all going to have to start pretending we're keen on sitting through 15-hours of tedious, stereotyped, militaristic nonsense featuring the standard collection of white American video game cliches."

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

That's what made the FF series so special to a lot of gamers.  FFXII had great gameplay but the story and characters were a disappointment

I prefer Japanese cliches to American cliches...and the Japanese cliches are usually accompanied with a game that isn't incredibly boring to play.
