They may use HD-DVD or Blu-Ray in the next generation... Blu-Ray could be supported for movies, but not necessarily for games.

HD-DVD??? Seriously, why would then ever do that?

Because it's probably cheaper than Blu-Ray (failed formats should be at least) and it will probably be harder to pirate.

Please dont use discs. I'm sick of this old technology. It's about time someone mass produced 30 gb + Sd cards. I would much rather DS sized boxes and no need for any drives in the console could save money in producing it.

What is the read speed on an SD card?

@NJ5 if they use hddvd, they will be the only one, disks would cost more, since there is no volume to production, not a lot of factories set up for it.

Id say blue ray, or a combo if downlaod or multi dvds that you install to play. no more streaming from the disk

i think it is kinda funny that after 3 gens its becoming possible to go back to solid state carts and maybe just as cheap as disks...

What is the read speed on an SD card?

it varies. There is a speed class system. The higher the class # the faster the card.

Example: 4 mb/s  class 4 card

What is the read speed on an SD card?

A 1X Blu-Ray drive has a read speed around 50% faster than the fastest SD card, so it's not really viable unless the read speed increases dramatically.

They are not going back to carts regardless what you want. It would seem Sony would have trouble keeping blu-ray away from MS due to MS being part of a consortium that came up with the protection. But it wouldn't surprise me if Sony tried to make life difficult due to MS making Sony's life difficult over the blue diodes.

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

I have a feeling the new XBox could make the current X360 look very insignificant in comparison. 2012 XBox would look good. Blu-Ray maybe? Could be a totally different media format that runs the HVD at an affordable price. 2012, new XBox with a $400 to $500 US price tag.

PS4 and new XBox with simultaneous world wide launches in 2012. Now that would be special.

Wikipedia says:
1x speed Blu-ray = 36 Mbit/s = 4.5 MB/s
150x speed SD = 22.5 MB/s

So unless you provide a source, I think that you are completely off base.

5 years ago no one would of expected DVD would of been surpassed with Blu-Ray.
