They are not going back to carts regardless what you want. It would seem Sony would have trouble keeping blu-ray away from MS due to MS being part of a consortium that came up with the protection. But it wouldn't surprise me if Sony tried to make life difficult due to MS making Sony's life difficult over the blue diodes.
