Listen to this guy. You can't expect teachers and stuff that DON'T PLAY VIDEO GAMES to know that many video games these days do not have a jump button (which is a basic function).
That's like when I let people play Wii Tennis for the first time and they ask me how to move the guy (after I explain the rest of the controls) I just have to tell them that YOU CAN'T. How the hell were they supposed to know? Moving is a basic function too, I can't blame them for asking about it.
Just my opinion. |
Moving is one of the most important things in tennis, and getting in the right position is very important in tennis, that is very different to jumping
.
Jumping is for casuals. Double jump is the hot thing. 90% of the games with double jump are good games. Castlevanias, Star Wars series (Snes), Devil may Cry 3, Viewtiful Joe, 3D Marios, Banjo Kazooie, God of War, Metroid.

In DMC3 and 4, I find myself doing aerial combo's more than anything else. And in onimusha 2 I got really bored because I couldn't jump, then in Chaos Legion I had a blast even though it felt exaclty like Onimusha but you can summon monsters and Jump. Lol. Not every game has/needs a jump button, but for any game action based alot of gamers have more fun with jumping. Am perfectly fine when my RPG's and most action games don't have a jump button, action RPG or not [folklore was pretty awesome].
Similar things apply to other genre's aswell. My brother says he won't buy Socom or MAG if there is no knife.... CoD4 is like a drug for him......

You can't jump in Heavenly Sword? That's pretty poor for an hack-n-slash game, not that I expected much more considering what I had previously heard about it.
Another funny one is MOH:Heroes on the Wii. The controls are great, but no jump button either. A FPS without a jump button is a pretty serious WTF.

I love games like Assassin's Creed where you can climb, jump etc. EVERYWHERE. Its just more immersive somehow. Nevertheless its no deal breaker for Heavenly Sword. I would rather have liked a couple of additional chapters . |
In MGS3 there were times when I wished I could just climb up a wall or mountain, LOL. Call me crazy, but I was just dying to do it....

Does CoD 4 have a jump button? (I am not sure) Gears certainly doesn't, and that is an incredible game, even if it is not quite an FPS

From a quick google search, it seems COD4 does. You can jump in Gears, although only in specific places (using the all-powerful A button).

I don't know what Patapon is but MGS4 should have one. MGS4 didn't need 30 minute cut scene either but that made the game more interesting and so would a damn jump button! Developper should learn to build their environment well enough so you can explore to whole of it whitout falling between the crack. |
I explored quite a bit in MGS4 without a jump button. Maybe a little climbing would have been nice, but it didn't ruin the experience.
