Forums - Gaming - Snes Shadowrun... Damn.

Let's pretend Johnny Mneumonic was actually a good movie. Now with that understanding, Shadowrun for Snes is Johnny Mneumonic the game. A futuristic cyberpunk game that just oozes with style and atmosphere. It's actually reminiscent of Fallout in several aspects.  It's dark. Damn dark. This was not a game for kids. It isn't easy either. I'm not that far in to it, and who knows what I'm about to get myself in to. I know that there's magic and internet hacking and it looks fairly complicated, but I'm sure I'll manage.

Anyone else played this game?

And how the hell this got turned in to an online first person shooter for the 360... I'll never know.

The Genesis Shadowrun was better.

Ok, I'll bite.

How come?

I don't really remember much of the SNES version but I know I played it a long time ago and it was good. Once you are done with it you should try the Genesis version (not a port a whole different game) which is, in my opinion, even better. It's a little more action based than the SNES.You can do battle in cyberspace and infiltrate corporation to steal money ect. I wonder if it will ever come to the VC. As for why it was turned into a shooter, no clue but I think Shadowrun is somekind of P&P RPG so it wasn't really a sequel to that game and it's the 360 where shooter is pretty much standard fare so...

Because Sega does what... oh never mind...

Genesis:  More open world, way more varied world and characters, less censorship

Sega CD: Japanese only, Never played it.

It was sooo long ago, is it on VC by any chance?

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

The Genesis version has a better representation of the Matrix, to start. On top of that, it is much closer to the original game in terms of the way it plays and the aspects it incorporates. It's also highly open-ended, and should get a lot (or at least some) of the credit that goes to GTA in terms of creating the sandbox style of game, even if it was highly primitive in that regard. The Genesis version also lets you choose your class (though it only has three options as compared to the dozen plus from the original game) and doesn't have the annoying (if inventive) feature of assassins being freaking everywhere.

I did play this game as a kid and I greatly enjoyed it. I hadn't found it to be that hard for the most part, but certainly not easy in plenty of parts. Especially when there is a trick you need to do to defeat a boss. What part are you at exactly?
I was also kinda confused when I heard about the 260 shooter version and remember reading some things of other people online being confused as well. I haven't played the Genesis version but have heard that it is a good game as well.
If either the SNES version or the Genesis version gets released on the VC, I'd consider getting them. Actually, maybe I'll check and see if we still have the SNES cartridge around later tonight.

I haven't played the Genesis one yet, but I've read/heard several articles/people saying the Genesis one was completely different, and most of them agreed it was better.

However, I played the SNES one and it's amazing. Such a kickass game.

It's actually based on a pen and paper RPG and the works of William Gibson.... who wrote the story that inspired Johnny Mnemonic. I had to look all this up, since the game came out way before the movie, and I thought the movie was a blatant ripoff.

But yeah, I was jacking into the Matrix back in 1993, before anybody even knew it existed.

How far in the game are you?

Yes, the Genesis Shadowrun is an entirely different game and is one of my favorite games on the system. If you like old computer style RPGs, definitely give it a shot.

I give this thread a 9.7.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

Yeah, Genesis version was the far better version. I played the SNES version as a kid and loved it, so when I ran into an article online that explained the differences I tried it out.

Basically, the key thing is being able to break into the computer networks of systems. So say that you get hired to steal something from a vault in the Fuchi Industrial Electronics corporation. Once you gain physical access to the building (or if you know their Matrix location), you can do things like shut down their camera/alarm system which makes it much simpler to infiltrate.
