Forums - Nintendo - Wii official running out of steam ?

We will see. Logically I would say the Wii has to go slower in the next years. Its biggest exclusives are out, the low-hanging fruits of games using the controller have been done (Tennis, Bowling ...) and the competition has technically much more advanced consoles that are starting to enter the price point of the Wii. And titles like Wii Music sound a bit desperate.

But I won't make any predictions anymore regarding the Wii.

@Showertea: Mario Kart has been one of the best selling franchises in gaming for well over a decade. There is only on game in the series released on each system, and it's always one of the top sellers. And by the way, MK on Cube sold about as well as Melee.

"I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself."

Oh noes, Wii is doomed... Again

All we have left to look forward to is

Animal Crossing, Wii Music, New Pikmin Kirby mario Zelda F-zero Starfox Kid Icarus

Hopefully by the time Ninty has made all of these, Miyamoto will have had a few good ideas, he is a genius after all.

Oh, and of course Ninty is looking at their next console, so are MS and Sony

I find that statement less than surprising for two reasons, The Wii is already the most accessorized console ever. Who else has released anything like a balance board? Motion Plus was not planned originally because the technology didn't even exist but it alone makes the Wii an entirely different console.

And traditionally Nintendo always remains close mouthed so even if things were in development down the road they would deny it anyway.

So just because they won't release another enormous batch of accessories the Wii is running out of steam? Riiiight...

Who wants to bet that Million would be complaining about Nintendo "Milking" their customers if Miyamoto said he was working on several add-ons to be announced next year?

The truth is that there is still lots that can be done with the Wiimote, even more can be done with the Wii MotionPlus and the Wii Fit Balance Board. Over the next 24 to 30 months Nintendo will (probably) have to release a version of every game they have already released with advanced controlls to make Nintendo fans happy, there are several games that haven't been released yet this generation that they will have to produce, and they (probably) have dozens of new games that are in the works.

If Nintendo did have an idea for another peripheral they (most likely) wouldn't be announcing it until 2010 and at that point the question is whether they would release it with the Wii or their next console.

While i can agree on brawl being one of the biggest titles of the generation, MKWii isn't. It's just another little yearly release that's doing crazy well because there are a huge number of wiis in existence and it's actually fun to play.

Brawl is selling really well, even better than Melee, and Melee alone made the Gamecube a non-failure.

Oh, and if Nintendo is in trouble for releasing Brawl and MKWii, then so are Sony or MS (depending on what flavor of fanboy you are) for already releasing what is WILL be their biggest games of the generation (Halo 3/MGS4)

Anyway, the claim in the linked article is that nintendo isn't really thinking about any more accessories. Again, if not releasing accessories = 'running out of steam', then the PS3 is way more out of steam with, what, 3 accessories (SixAxis, DualShock3, PS3 Eye) and the 360 is super boned with no major accessories! (Sarcasm)

Note: I'm not a fanboy. Really.

What exactly do you mean by "biggest title of the generation?"  If we're going by sales, MKWii looks like it'll be the best selling game of this generation (unincluding Wii Series).  A "little yearly release" that sells more than any other game is not just another game.  Otherwise, you could say the same about a game like FF7.  Also, by sales, MGS4 isn't Sony's biggest title, not even close.

If you're going by innovation, Brawl hasn't done much new either.  Nor has MGS4, for that matter.  Big innovative titles would go to LBP, Wii Series, etc.

That only leads to the assumption you're talking about game quality (opinion or reviews).  However, for these companies making the games, that doesn't mean anything.  Sales / money talks, the "hardcore" niche make up a very small % of the total people that buy video game consoles - their opinion is only worth the money they spend, no more.  Remember that less than 5% of the PS2 population bought the MGS games on that console.

@cOrd: Many gamers do not count Wii or Wii's games because they don't like them.  It's that simple.

They immediately dismiss casual titles, quirky titles, games with Mario or Zelda in them, and games that include motion related gameplay element (they refer to this as teh waggle).

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Until they get more idea's they can easily expand on what they have now.... Like a WiiFit 2, or WiiSports 2..... you guys get the picture. I doubt Nintendo can be considered down and out..... it's much too early to say that.

4 ≈ One

Oprah just bought one. Wii fit has lots of potential buyers in queue. That and the fact that nintendo is making a profit on the hardware alone would still give them what counts ($$$$$$$$$$$) lol.
