Forums - Nintendo - My okami Wii impressions, the brush stroking was hard wasnt true.

I've played both versions. I definitely think the Wii version is much easier to control for anyone that doesn't have Parkinson's. The reason I quit the PS2 version was because the painting was too frustrating with analog sticks.

Agreed, I have plenty of experience using both the PS2 controller and the Wii controller and of the two the Wii was far easier to control the brush with.  The problem many people run into is with strait line abilities on the Wii, once you understand that you can hold down Z to force a straight line everything is silky smooth.

WHAT?

I'm 95% of the way through the game, never knew this - the game doesn't tell you? :(

I don't have too many issues with combat, as there are so many combat options/weapons/attacks available.

And I'm 100x better with the brushes now that I'm near the end (rather than the start) - those damned "cut"scenes really drove me crazy, and will definitely lead me to lowering my score for the game.

(when they ported the game, they *needed* to tweak the brush algos to better support the Wiimote - its a porting issue, nothing else).

I couldn't care less about the dodging moves, I never use (or need) them.

...

Even though the game is not quite as polished as Twilight (and technically, the gfx not as good) - and the "frustration" level at a few points is much, much higher - its a much better game than Twilight. Nintendo could learn a lot from Okami, and yes - I'm talking about "fundemental game design".

Everyone who has a Wii, likes adventure games and considers themself a "hardcore gamer" (this is NOT a game for casualz) must play Okami. Its that simple.

OMG YOU'RE GOOD! =O I cant draw a straight line especially in combat without using the Z button

I think the reviews were spot-on, except for the straight lines argument. It's hard to draw straight lines, unless you press the Z button. Most reviewers failed to mention that. Attacking and combos are a bit harder with the Wii remote, because you have to get the timing right. It's easier when you just press a button. The worst move on the Wii version is the dodge move. I was shocked when I realised how inaccurate the nunchuck's accelerometers are.

Personally, I liked Okami more than Twilight Princess.  It's that good. :)

Except for the last sentence I agree with tihis

Doesn't need straight line for slash , you could use a quick sign. I usually use always the A button , the Z button I use only for the "monster list thing".

Control work ok even the combo ( think about a musical game without rythm change ). Only the nunchuck's move doesn't work ( it's awfull actually ).

Straight lines I can do without the Z button. Trauma Center taught me that when you want straight, a fast stroke is better than a careful one.

Only troublesome brush command for me was the ∞ fire command.

As for melee combos, it's all about deliberate gestures to the correct rhythm. Jerk the wiimote to the left for one attack, then the right for next, then back to the left, with a properly timed pause between each stroke. Or just get a rosary and spaz out.

Controls definitely could have been tighter, but they were far from game breaking.

Im a lazy gamer, so what I just want to do was to point the wiimote on the screen, I just even only tilted the wiimote sideways back and forth for Link to slash. So even I can do it dont want to do it. Im not even playing Wii Sports that much...

About the combat wow thats hard, so its rhytmic then. So the combos are useless for me then

Anyway just asking, is it a waste of money to buy skills on dojo or there is a skill there that I can use if there is any? Please help. I already buy 2 skills on the dojo already... :/

Several of them are very worthwhile...honestly I don't know how others feel but I got as many as I could afford as I went along.

To Each Man, Responsibility

But I dont know how to time combo attacks yet, its just too hard, is it still OK?

Yes. I bought them all. Like other people said the Nunchuck dodge is frustrating but the rest are worthwile. The insult one is my favorite.
