This is stupid. MS can go jump off a cliff. Banning Hitler accounts is one thing. But this is like going a bit extreme.

Do you know how many words are auto-ban by PSN?  Please stop with this shit about Microsoft evil way.  There are so many words you can't used as part of your name for PSN account.

If this happened in US, Richard Gaywood a millionare confirmed!
Don't forget that gays are happy.

I have always found the Richard joke stupid and immature.

@Onyxmeth: Hey, don't tell me Seymour Richard Pound is your little brother?

Now i want a cookie too.

I'm beginning to get really tired of all the 'protecting the children' nonsense that is going on these days. I wonder if someone who'd choose ChainsawMurderer as gamertag would get the same response.

It seems to me that in many, many ways Southpark the Movie was 100% correct in it's assessment of the entertainment industry.

@Geldorn: Actually South Park is nothing but correct, since it's only joking by making fun of society with its own standards. It just uses the stereotypes in "modern society". The whole joke is to view the society by an outsiders (ie. "innocent", not corrupted by society, the kids) eyes.

Goodness. This is shameful. I understand Microsoft wanting to protect innocent eyes, but this action contradicts their own excuse:
"we also have a responsibility to create an inclusive, safe environment"

inclusive!
Guess that doesn't INCLUDE gay people. This poor chap isn't gay, but just having gay in his name is some sort of high treason? I am not gay, but I find this sort of attitude amazing in the modern world.

First of all the user knew full and well that their name had a negative connotation. You do not go through life being oblivious to such things. When your name has a double meaning you are fully aware of it, because you end up being ribbed and ripped for it constantly during your childhood. This is no babe in the woods.

Second Microsoft is trying to maintain certain community standards. All communities maintain standards so as to promote a certain degree of mutual respect. Which is essential if a community is to survive. You most certainly cannot walk down the streets nude, and if you walk around a busy area cursing, and making profane gestures eventually some people in uniforms are going to show up well in the better places to live at least. Online anonymity is not an excuse to shed your moral decency.

Third names with Gay references are rarely about gay pride. They are about disparaging the homosexual life style. They are often used in a negative fashion, and are used to promote bigotry. They are meant to offend the community in general, and to degrade a social group.

Forth this user need only create a new name that will not offend other players. That is not difficult in fact crafting a vulgar name takes greater work as users have to try and bypass word blocks. They are not banned in as much as the name merely needs to be changed. For those who damn Microsoft damn every other company that offers a online gaming service with avatars. All of them have similar practices.

Fifth the user should have taken their gamertag more seriously. A gamertag is an explanation of oneself. When you see a offensive name on any community service it immediately creates a negative impression of the person behind the name. After all how much respect can you have for other community members if the first thing they see from you is your offensive name. That is the reason these policies exist in the first place fowl names are disrespectful and insulting to others.

The people who generally have a problem with these policies are gutless anarchists, and juvenile offenders. They think being offensive is both witty and cool. They are also often compensating for their own lack of real life individuality. Being a individual and bucking the trends is far more substantial when you have the courage to display it where people can attach it to your real face.

You want to be a renegade go shave half your head bald. Speak out in support of a cause or stand up for a belief. Choose to not conform to certain social standards. Just keep your gutless dirty words to yourself. They just show how shallow and idiotic you are. Show me a really innovative name.
