Tales has a long, tough road to out-sell Blue Dragon.

I think that BD's first week record of 86,000 units in Japan (best for a X360 game), can be out-done by Tales. However, the fact that Blue Dragon kept selling...And selling...And selling...Was genre-defying.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. If it can get near ToS2...Oh man. That's going to be epic!

but there is also a bundle of ToV and 360 right,i read some where(cant remember exactly)but theyre was 7,000 of those and all sold out.Its incredible if they all sold out

It will sell atleast as well as Blue Dragon did in Japan. This game is generating a lot of hype and demand from Japanese gamers, even from the ones that can't afford a 360.

....But will hype and demand get owners to buy a Xbox 360 for Tales? The Xbox 360 still has a pretty small userbase - 640,000-odd users. Getting users to buy a system for 1 game is no easy task. Hopefully, MS and Namco can get more of the ToV bundles out there, as it seems that it certainly has/had the potential to sell nearly as many units in a week or two, than the X360 has sold all year.

I think the Japanese aren't really buying it just for Tales-- they are buying it now because Tales is on its way very very soon. I think they are also buyin it for infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, and the eventual Star Ocean IV. Thats 4 games, which used to be a fairly common attach rate, at least so I've heard.

Japan love their JRPGs so of course they would buy a 360 to buy the RPG onslot that is about to come

@Riachu I think you overexaggerate the importance of Jrpgs. While the Japanese think Jrpgs are a good genre, you notice that there are many other genres more popular. Also they are people like us, they don't just think only Jrpgs. And if they want to be satisfied with Jrpgs there are plenty of alternatives. Also you missed the entire point of his post. He said its not only ToV that will sell the 360, but many Jrpgs.

Yes. There's the official Tales of Vesperia Bundle. But the sad sad issue is that it seems that the initial run of bundles was in the 7,000 units. The Blue Dragon bundle was somewhere insane - like near 50,000 units. Hopefully Namco/MS find a way to get more bundles. So ToV has a huge hill to climb to get near Blue Dragon. It not only sold insanely well on it's first week (for the userbase), but had good legs. Tales games, as evidenced by ToS2, do not have great legs, and it would take a massive push by MS, and the emergence of the X360 as the lead JRPG console (in terms of people actually buying it as such in Japan), to reach Blue Dragon's 210,000 total.

It's entirely possible, as ToS2 on the Wii will certainly break Blue Dragon's sales numbers, but again...With the X360 userbase..It'll be hard. Selling 150,000+ would be GREAT for the X360 and for Namco, I think.

I know that they like genre other than JRPGs

No way. That certainly won't happen.

Well, ToV could outsell BD, here's why:

Tales is an existing franchise while Blue Dragon was a new IP and we all know that games from existing series generally sell better in Japan than new IPs

Name one good reason why ToV won't outsell BD

Not enough stock likely

I'm personally really excited for this game, and I'm hoping that this game proves to be a surprise gem to all you doubters out there, like Tales of Symphonia was, which I believe managed over a million units on the Gamecube as a 3rd party game.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

One good reason: Tales games aren't very popular anymore. Look at Tales of Symphonia 2: DotNW...5 million userbase...200,000 units sold since launch, and limping into 225,000 LTD sales.

ToV does have the potential, but I think it won't...It'll be close..But it won't.

However, it seems that HW sales are going to be insane, which does lead me to believe that with all of these recent console sales since Gundam: OT came out, and the information that Soul Calibur IV on X360 has done gangbusters, it's entirely feasable that there are 20-30,000 Tales fans that have bought a X360 recently, and that's a large bit of new addopters for the game. Naturally, I think ToV can sell around 120,000 units (or so) to the current X360 base...Anything more has to be done by new addopters.
