Any one else come to this conclusion? I am very excited about PSP sales. With Phantasy Star sales never being huge (or even trackable in I-IV's case)

Who else would love to see a ressurection of the *real*, non-Online Phantasy Star series? I know I would. I beat III and IV, and have played both I and II, with II and IV being the best of the series. I'll even go out and say that Phantasy Star did quite a bit more for innovative game play than Final Fantasy did, at the time. Yet very few recognize the impact that PS had on the JRPG world.

Anyone want to speculate, or post their support for the Phantasy Star series?

Here is an old interview I had(together with another freelancer called Heidi Kemps) with Rieko Kodama. She wouldnt mind making a fifth one.

Edit: Here is the link: http://www.the-nextlevel.com/feature/interview-rieko-kodama/

Also its supposed to be longer, dunno what happened with it.

I will have to contact the site.

Ah she also made Skies of Arcadia or worked on it that is something I didn't know.

And lol the pictures,  you don't change do you?

Phantasy Star PSP is Phantasy Star Universe.

Phantasy Star Universe is the base game but PSP is still technically a new game.  PSU had one big flaw that PSP doesn't:you need to pay to play multiplayer in PSU while playing multiplayer is free in PSP.  I was hesistant to play the full version of PSU but I played the XBL demo for it and from what I played, it was pretty addicting.  However, that doesn't mean I will pay to play the multiplayer.  I will pay for play a game if it is an MMO but PSU wasn't an MMO

I'm not seeing how you figure that great sales of PSP PSU will lead to a 'real' Phantasy Star V. Doesn't it seem a lot more likely that it would lead to more PSU-type sequels?

And, for the record, as someone that played the 360 rev of PSU for about 3 weeks for far too many hours (and loved the Dreamcast and Cube PSO), you're much better off with Monster Hunter.

I am not sure if I would play Monster Hunter. There are reasons why people(including me) are hesistant to play Monster Hunter. What does MH has that PSU/PSP doesn't?

Can we get back to actually talking about Phantasy Star?

Holy crap! Phantasy Star Portable has free online? Wow.

Fishie, at any rate, if your going to go to Sega HQ and ask a anything about the Phantasy Star series...

1) How well did the initial Phantasy Star series do sales wise? I know it was 15-odd years ago since IV launched, but this would be interesting. The carts where I live were $99.99 a pop (thats 1994, US dollars, folks)

2) Has Phantasy Star Portable met sales expectations?

3) Could we ever see Phantasy Star go to Xbox Live Arcade, similar to the other Sega Classics such as Golden Axe, Sonic the Hedgehog, and such?

4) What is the likelyhood of seeing a non-MMO Phantasy Star in the future? There are still quite a few PS fans in the US (me being one of them).

5) If any more Phantasy Star games come out, will they ever return to the dark, nihilistic, tech-noir themes of the past iterations (mostly II, which was brilliant and depressing with it's masterful storyline).

I think that's about it.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Waiting for news from Sega PR to see if she will be available for a chat.
If she is I will definitly ask.

Immense 'Phantasy Star Portable' (PSP)'s sales leading to development of 'Phantasy Star V' ?
Very highly unlikely.

What Japanese's gamers are buying is an 'Online Multiplayer and Portable JRPG' in the same vein that 'Monster Hunter Freedom 2', not 'Phantasy Star'...
A single player RPG, even on a handheld, would fail to reach that market, just like the '2D platformer': 'Wario Land: Shake It!' failed to reach the audience of the 'party game': 'Wario Ware: Smooth Moves'.
Plus, it is quite a saturated market already.

Not that I wouldn't like a traditional 'Phantasy Star', but from a business point of view, it does not make much sense.
Now Sega does not have an history of wise business move, so it may not be completely impossible.
