Immense 'Phantasy Star Portable' (PSP)'s sales leading to development of 'Phantasy Star V' ?
Very highly unlikely.
What Japanese's gamers are buying is an 'Online Multiplayer and Portable JRPG' in the same vein that 'Monster Hunter Freedom 2', not 'Phantasy Star'...
A single player RPG, even on a handheld, would fail to reach that market, just like the '2D platformer': 'Wario Land: Shake It!' failed to reach the audience of the 'party game': 'Wario Ware: Smooth Moves'.
Plus, it is quite a saturated market already.
Not that I wouldn't like a traditional 'Phantasy Star', but from a business point of view, it does not make much sense.
Now Sega does not have an history of wise business move, so it may not be completely impossible.
