By the way the article doesn't mention that you can also control the flashlight and camera horizontally by twisting the Wii Remote.

So you can control the camera in all directions using the Wii Remote only?
That makes much more sense, and means IGN's article is quite misleading. It also makes it pretty clear that the reason for this is adding to the atmosphere by making the controls slower.

Read the comments--someone has the import version, and IGN used the controls incorrectly. You don't physically move the Wii-mote right or left to move the camera, you tilt it up or down, like you would if you were aiming a camera. In real life, if you are aiming a camera and want to take a picture of something to the right, you turn your head (and naturally, the camera) to the right. You don't strafe to the right. So this makes sense.
That kind of confirms this game is really scary and disturbing, to the point of making IGN's staff utterly confused about how the game works.

@NJ5
Well you can't control it as much as you want, you can't have a full 360 turn... more like a 50 degree(?) turn. But trust me it's efficient in this kind of game as the whole game feels slow (in a good, creepy way).

Ah well that's a lot better. Sounds like we need that to be clarified in the first post.

As far as I remember, it also works like that in FF2.

You misunderstood me, or i misunderstood you.
Using the analog stick to look left or right while on camera mode allows for a full 360 turn, that's just not the case while twisting the remote.

I see. I think in FF2 you're even more limited than that, but I have to recheck that later.

OK, I just turned on the game to check it out... In FF2, you can turn wherever you want to with the camera, but it's also quite slow.
Regarding the flashlight, you can turn it with the right analog stick, but only a few degrees in every direction and it re-centers when you release the stick.
Doesn't seem like FF4 will be any worse from what you said.
